Jalan Tua Kong Lau Lim takes over 2 stalls at Bedok Market Place hawker centre

Unlike its adjacent hawker stalls in Bedok Market Place hawker centre, Jalan Tua Kong Lau Lim welcomes new beginnings with their successful relocation from Simpang Bedok.

On 6 Mar 2023, the brand which is most known for their mee pok dishes announced the closure of their outlet in Simpang Bedok. Fast forward to 19 May 2023 and Jalan Tua Kong Lau Lim revealed on their Facebook page that they are opening their new Bedok outlet.

I love all types of noodles. Mee pok is a Chinese noodle dish characterised by flat and bright yellow noodle strands. Meat, vegetables and fried shallots, ikan bilis (small anchovies) and spring onion then garnish each bowl.

2 options are available for their Signature Noodle (S$5.50/ S$6.50/ S$7.50) Soup or Dry. Although I usually prefer soup noodle renditions, I cannot help but order the Dry version when dining at Jalan Tua Kong Lau Lim.

The seasoning sauce added to the bottom of the dish creates a savoury and tangy flavour, complimenting the egg noodles well.

Besides its signature bouncy noodle texture, regular customers — like me — are also addicted to the homemade chilli paste. The warm and aromatic spice elevates the sauce seasoning which results in the most comforting noodle bowl.

Every mee pok bowl should come with deep fried pork lard pieces. Luckily for those dining at the hawker centre, unlimited servings of these fatty bombs are available at the self-service counter!

According to one of their Facebook posts, the team also uses oil that is fried with shallots and pork lard pieces to flavour the dish. It is no wonder that the noodles are so flavourful and fragrant.

At the new location, a second stall called Lau Lim Kaya Toast has also sprung up. They offer traditional local breakfast sets with the likes of Bun Butter – Kaya (S$1.60) and Soft Boiled Eggs (S$1.60)

Apart from their popular noodles, those residing in the vicinity now have another breakfast option!
