Unfortunately, the central Ang Mo Kio outlet that we’ve frequented has ceased its operations. They’ll now be moving to the East at Bedok North. Specifically, they’ll be at Block 217 Bedok North Street 1. (Cue: “east side best side” now)
Yes, they’re now located near the food hub of Bedok 85 Market, so if you’re around the area, be sure to check their new location out!
The closure was announced on a Facebook post on 14 Apr 2023. Some netizens were relieved to know about the shift as “the AMK branch was [at a] really bad location [as] it was in a quiet corner.”
Lucky for them, they’ve commenced their opening since 15 Apr 2023 and have started to feed many mouths with delicious authentic Malaysian-style tze char.
For the uninitiated who haven’t heard of JB Poached Fish & Herbal Bak Kut Teh, they’re a stall that was famed for their affordable tze char options. They were popularised online amongst locals for their budget-friendly costs and other yummy offerings. For one to find a gem in Singapore that sells poached fish at inexpensive prices— who said you needed to cross the border for a good and cheap meal?
I’m talking about premium dishes of Sea Bass that are priced at very wallet-friendly prices of S$13/S$18/S$26. It really makes me wonder how much other stalls mark up their prices in comparison to JB Poached Fish & Herbal Bak Kut Teh. If you think that they only have a minimal flavour palate of garlic and brown sauce, think again! Choose from Nyonya Sauce, Soy Sauce, Cai Po and Hot & Sour Bean Paste Poached Fish!
Once you’re here, there’ll be a variety of dishes for you to choose from. I heard that the stir-fried Bitter Gourd with Fried Egg (S$7) is a good side option! Those who detest bitter gourd, you’ll probably be forced to try out this dish by your friends now as the bitter taste is replaced by the wok hei flavour that’ll satisfy you plenty.
Don’t forget, they have herbal bak kut teh too, so if you’re thinking of travelling to Malaysia to curb that craving… think again.
JB Poached Fish & Herbal Bak Kut Teh has relocated several times since their opening. Who knows, maybe they’re doing a personal Singaporean tour to test out where the best location is? Just kidding.
