KING of Chicken Rice has finally opened an outlet in the CBD at Shenton Food Hall. To celebrate their opening, they’ll be selling S$1.50 plates of chicken rice from now till 20 Apr 2023.

With countless cafes and restaurants in the vicinity offering high-priced food and drink options, this limited deal from the chicken rice company will surely stand out and capture the attention of many.

Needless to say, 2 types of chicken are sold at the stall – namely, the steamed and roasted chicken. They are originally priced at S$4.50 per Chicken Rice Set (for either chicken variation).

Based on the pictures alone, there seems to be a good chicken skin to meat ratio. This is an important component that I scrutinise over to determine if it is a good chicken rice stall, as I enjoy occasional fatty bites in between mouthfuls of lean meat with rice.

While most economical chicken rice serves a mere 4-5 chicken pieces on top of the rice itself, KING of Chicken Rice seems to offer more generous portions. Each Chicken Rice Set consists of a plate of sliced chicken neatly lined up on top of a bed of bean sprouts, a separate plate of rice and a serving of clear soup. Do note that this presentation is only for dine-in consumption as the chicken is stacked on top of the rice in takeaway settings.

A must-have item when I devour this local specialty is the combination of garlic-ginger as a condiment. Thankfully, customers are allowed to self-serve from a container filled with just that. Additionally, besides the usual garlic chilli dipping sauce, spice lovers may order the Spicy Fried Chicken Rice (S$5.50) as well.

Supplementary dishes that may appeal to those extra hungry include the Braised Tofu (S$0.5), Braised Egg (S$1), chicken gizzards such as Chicken Liver (S$1), and Oyster Veg (S$4/5).

Those looking to bulk order may do so via directly contacting them through WhatsApp (+65 9100 4716). Not only will time be saved, 2 additional complementary packs are thrown in for every 10 packs ordered!
