Previously the owner of You Ma You La chain, 42-year-old Singapore citizen, Yang Jian, is back. This time to offer us affordable bowls of authentic Japanese tonkotsu ramen in the heartlands. Named Kumamoto Ramen, the stall focuses on selling bowls of ramen that will offer you a one-of-a-kind experience; similar to being in Japan itself.

After his 14-outlet chain went bust, Yang Jian decided to seek help from his Japanese friend (based in Tokyo), to bring us authentic Japanese grub in an affordable setting. The simple interior is also decked with a floor-to-ceiling mural of adorable Pokémon! A unique experience indeed. To keep things budget-friendly, he also sources out for affordable cuts like pork shoulder for the cha shu and other store-bought ingredients.

For S$6.80 a bowl, ramen at Kumamoto Ramen comes with one soft-yolk marinated egg and two slices of cha shu. The most expensive bowl here will only cost you S$9.80.

Of course, ramen isn’t all they have to offer. If you’re looking for lighter dishes to snack on, you can order yourself a plate of Edamame (S$3.50)Gyoza (S$4), Ebi Fry (S$5), Takoyaki (S$5)Awabi (S$4), and more.

Currently opened at two locations (Bukit Merah and Serangoon North), the hawker hopes to open at least six more outlets within the next three years. All the best, Yang Jian!
