Caribbean restaurants aren’t all that common around these parts. There’s Lime House along Keong Saik, and that’s about it. Well, perhaps not. La Boca Bistro Bar is the newest kid on the block. Nestled in the heart of Kampong Glam, this eatery promises to bring the tropical flavours of the Caribbean over to our little red dot.
Decked out in punchy, vibrant colours, diners here can look forward to laid-back meals studded with a plethora of funky exotic flavours that intrigue the palate and warm the soul.
There are lots to be enamoured by on La Boca’s menu. A Scallop Ceviche (S$18) employs a heady mix of spice and tang. Here, you get chunks of fresh scallop served with fennel and topped off with a ginger citrus liquid for a touch of brightness.
If that doesn’t excite, maybe a visit to the Rellenos De Papa (S$15) will. There’s little to argue about breaded and fried potato balls. Add a homemade chilli corn beef into the mix, and you get a killer small plate to start your meal at La Boca Bistro Bar.
Elsewhere, seafood lovers will be entranced by a serving of the Pulpo Gallego (S$17), which boasts a Galician style octopus paired with chorizo and a sprinkling of Spanish paprika. Yes, it’s surf and turf in a neat appetiser. I reckon this would pair exceptionally well with some of La Boca Bistro Bar’s house-made cocktails.
The mains are no slouch either. Traditional Caribbean favourites come by way of the Pulled Goat Curry On Flatbread (S$24). Here, a playful combination of rich curry, roasted cashews, and fresh chilis take centre stage. Order this if you’re looking for some properly indulgent meaty goodness.
With such an assortment of hearty Caribbean fare and a selection of drinks to boot, any time spent at La Boca is bound to be imbued with joy and filled with delicious grub.
