Huge Lakeside Pasar Malam with food & carnival rides till Jan 2025

Calling all Westies! You can now look forward to the Lakeside MRT Pasar Malam, which will be running till 26 Jan 2025! 

Set in the large open field next to Lakeside MRT station, the new pasar malam boasts over 30 food stalls. The options are vast, from Thai milk tea, stinky tofu and sweet potato balls to fried vadai, Ramly burgers and kebabs.

When I arrived on the first day, it was already buzzing with activity. While several stalls had yet to set up shop, the open ones were met with crowds rushing for a taste.

The Famous Korean Spicy Egg Roll (S$6) my companion ordered was creamy, yet spicy. In fact, it had a kick that could wake you up even after a long day of work. 

It consisted of Samyang instant noodles, cheese and sausage, all wrapped in a layer of egg and garnished with seaweed flakes and sesame seeds. Spicy noodle lovers out there, you’re guaranteed to like this one.

Aduna’s Biryani serves your usual Indian cuisine, such as Biryani (S$9.90) and pani puri. 

The Veg Pani Puri (S$10 for 7pcs) was tangy with cold masala water and onions, and filled with crunchy murukku and nuts. They were savoury, yet addictively refreshing. We had to eat fast – the delicate fried shells get soggy if soaked for too long.

My favourite was the Grilled Squid (S$6) from Authentic Iron Plate Kung Fu Squid. The squid skewer, thick and chewy, was generously seasoned with chilli flakes, sesame seeds and cumin paste. 

Old Time features Chinese street food like deep-fried fish balls, tea eggs, steamed cakes, buttered corn and shark fin soup (S$2.50). 

Go crazy at Reloaded for a bag of chips heaped with toppings at S$10. You can even bring your chips and pay just S$7 instead. Similarly, stuff a potato with sauce and protein and build your own spud at Spudzilla from S$3. 

For those with a sweet tooth, grab Hong Kong bubble waffles (from S$6) and tanghulu (candied fruit) at BTHL. If you like Indonesian, there’s The Bakso Safirah, serving up bakso. It’s a dish of large meatballs, stuffed with smaller meatballs.

Lakeside MRT Pasar Malam has plenty of other food options as well. They include cotton candy, fried chicken skin, grilled Thai pork skewers, Fuzhou oyster pancakes, bomboloni doughnuts – the list goes on. You’ll be spoilt for choice, for sure!

Visitors can also look forward to entertainment services, including carnival rides, claw machines and a small stage for live musical performances. 

Try your luck at catching a soft toy, or even stand to win a Labubu doll worth S$145. If not, pop balloons to get your hands on a gigantic duck plush at the traditional carnival game booth.
