During this quarantine season, the only ‘chill’ in ‘Netflix & Chill’ you should be getting is from the ice cream you’re eating while bingeing your shows. And I know just the place to get your hands on some of the sinful desserts we all love.

Madly Good Storefront

MadlyGood made its splash in JCUBE in October 2019 serving a trove of innovative artisanal gelato, baked goods and premium coffee.

Inspired by their love for travelling, the founders felt compelled to bring Singaporeans the wonderful flavours experienced throughout their adventures. They do so by offering a myriad of creative gelato flavours whilst also providing organic, specially imported coffee beans.

Madly Good Ice Cream Flavours

The store functions mainly as a pick-up kiosk much like a bubble tea shop but does offer some dine-in seating. I was bestowed with a clean and sleek interior—the cafe was furnished with some rounded tables and chairs and was quintessentially minimalist at its core. Conveniently located near the ice skating rink, this spot is sure to attract curious onlookers whilst enjoying a relaxing cuppa or a quick dessert fix.

Passionate in bringing quality gelato flavours to the masses, one of the founders explained to me that they have collaborated with Tom’s Palette, a local homegrown ice-cream parlour you might be familiar with. The parlour is known for churning out unorthodox and extraordinary flavours, with no added artificial flavouring or stabilisers.

Madly Good Coffee Latte

Being coffee aficionados themselves, they meticulously curate and source coffee beans with a good balance of acidity and nuttiness. Be sure to grab a cup for yourself to satiate your caffeine cravings as you’ll only want to sip the best!

Madly Good Coffee

The Cafe Latte (S$5.80) I had was smooth and easy on my palate, which I thoroughly enjoyed.  The no-frills coffee was executed in perfection and delivered a good mix of milkiness, bitterness and mild acidity.

Madly Good Takeaway

As there is no dine-in allowed during the ‘Circuit Breaker’ period, I brought home several items from them and I was glad to see each item conveniently packed in a microwaveable container. This allowed me to easily reheat them in the microwave—because nobody likes cold waffles!

On a side note, I greatly appreciated how the sauces were packaged separately as these crunchy delights have the tendency to turn soggy after getting in contact with any sort of moisture.

Madly Good Cheese Waffle

While I still lean towards the classic waffle-with-butter-and-maple syrup combo, savoury waffles are no stranger to me. A fan-favourite order is The Hot Cheese Waffles (S$15), available all day, consisting of cheddar cheese waffles, two sunny side waffle eggs, chicken ham, a slice of cheese and a salad made of cherry tomatoes and lettuce. Adding their house-made Honey Butter Sauce brought this dish to a completely different level.

I especially loved how each component could be consumed individually or as a medley. I found myself opting for the latter, playfully mixing and matching pieces from the dish. The resulting bites were life-changing. The piquant cheese flavour from the waffle balanced the sweet notes from the butter sauce that gave each bite a luxurious mouthfeel.

The sweet and savoury flavours flawlessly complemented each other, elevating the experience even more. Also, what could ever go wrong with chicken ham, cheese and eggs? A creative rendition of classic staple ingredients, this dish just raised the bar for savoury waffles, in my opinion.

Madly Good Ice Cream

The Guilty Swirl (S$9) gelato was the embodiment of decadence. Conveniently packed in a half-pint tub, you can now take them home and enjoy it in the comfort of your home. Rich and creamy, this gelato is worth putting any diet on pause.

With flavours reminiscent of cookies and cream cheesecake, its no surprise bits of Oreo cookies were present, adding a playful change in texture now and then. Neither the tang from the cream cheese nor the sweetness from the cookies overpowered each other, but they instead provided a refreshing balance of tart and sweet. To my surprise, each spoonful was pleasantly light on my palate.

Madly Good Waffles

The Buttered-Up Peanut Butter Waffle (S$12.50) was sandwiched with slices of banana, blueberries, almond flakes and crushed peanuts. The fluffy interior of the waffles was contrasted by the crunchy nuts, giving each mouthful a pleasant bite. The house-made Roasted Peanut Syrup gave a depth of flavour with hints of sweetness, perfectly complementing the other ingredients.

Madly Good Discount

All in all, MadlyGood certainly promises a satisfying dessert fix, from their delectable gelato to their mouth-watering waffles. If you’re not convinced yet, there’s a 20% discount for all take-away half pints and 25% discount on waffles available from now till 4 May 2020. There’s no better time than now to support them and treat yourself to something sweet!
