Calling all wine enthusiasts! Did you know about Malbec World Day, an annual wine celebration in April?
On 17 April 2018, the world commemorated Malbec World Day in an event organised by Wines of Argentina, at the Tower Club Singapore.
Malbec wines are one of the best varieties of purple grape used in making red wine. Known for their inky-dark fruit flavours and robust tannins, Malbec wines offer a great alternative to higher-priced Cabernet Sauvignon or Syrah.
Currently, the main producer of Malbec, Argentina disproves the belief that all good wines come only from France. Due to its warmer climate, Malbec grapes grown in Argentina have tannins with a sweeter and silkier quality. Malbec is almost like a national treasure there!
At the event, I was able to taste an amazing 16 brands of wine, all of which feature Malbec! While I’m not huge on wine, the Malbec wines were really easy on the tongue yet bursting with flavour. I couldn’t stop drinking and left the event with my face as red as Malbec itself!
Malbec World Day may have passed, but you can still get some Malbec of your own at attractive discounted rates. The Argentinian brand, Bodegas Krontiras, is offering up special wine prices valid till 30 April 2018.
A bottle of Dona Silvina Malbec 2015 can be bought at $52 (usual price $58). The grapes used here come from Maipu Mendoza, the heart of Argentina’s Malbec-growing region.
I can safely vouch for this red wine that went down smoothly without the strong sourness characteristic of some other red wines.
If you’re looking for something a little lighter, the Dona Silvina Rosado Malbec 2016 ($32, usual price $38) is another good choice. This rosé does have a fancier vibe to it thanks to its striking pink hue. It comes with a subtle sweetness that would be a hit even among less-seasoned wine drinkers.
To purchase Malbec from Bodegas Krontiras, contact Mr Karthik Kaliappan through email or call +65 9010 6512 to place your wine order. With a minimum purchase of $350, you’ll even get free delivery.
Date: From now until 30 April 2018
Price: $35 – $120 per bottle
If you missed out on all the action, the good news is that Malbec World Day is a yearly affair. Mark it on your calendars and come try this exotic, lesser-known brand of Argentinean wine. I guarantee you won’t regret it!
