As a Muslim foodie, I’d often find myself struggling to find authentic and Muslim-friendly Korean restaurants in Singapore, especially when so many of them claim to be genuine. With Meokja by JUNGGA I can rest easy with their claim.

Meokja by JUNGGA is helmed by Chef Jung SangWoo, a Korean-Muslim revert, and opened on 9 Oct 2022 at GR.iD.

When Chef Jung first arrived in Singapore, he realised that many fellow Muslims were not able to experience proper halal Korean food. This made him start a home-based business to share what authentic Korean food should taste like whilst using only halal ingredients. Meokja also means “let’s eat” in Korean.

Meokja by JUNGGA offers your Korean staples such as TteokBokki (S$6.90), which are rice cakes slathered in sweet and spicy sauce, Bibim Guksu (S$6.90), sweet and spicy cold noodles, and Jjajangmyeon (S$9.90), a savoury sweet noodle dish mixed with black bean and minced meat sauce.

It also offers lesser-known Korean dishes such as Tangsuyuk (S$11.90), which is a crispy and chewy fried chicken dish served with tangy sweet and sour apple sauce with actual pieces of apples in them. There’s also Eomuk Tang (S$8.90), a warm savoury soup packed with Korean fish cakes.

Those who are dining with company (or have a big appetite) can opt for the differing combo sets available. These combo sets include a combination of main dishes with drinks. One of the sets, Bunshik Set (S$30.80)includes a large TteokBokki, Eomuk Tang, Tuna Rice Balls and any two Coolpis drinks, which are Korean sodas.

The time for authentic and Muslim-friendly Korean food is now here with Meokja by JUNGGA!
