Does anyone remember the limited edition SingaFour Series Mr Bean came up with last year for National Day?

Out of the four local flavours they had, my favourite was the Oreo Cheese. So, you can imagine my delight when I found out Mr Bean launched a Say Cheese With Healthy Wholegrains campaign from now till the end of April 2019.

Besides the use of wholegrain flour, which offers more nutrition, they upgraded to a different kind of cheese from the usual The Laughing Cow. They are using premium quality President cheese from France.

There are four new flavours in this cheesy range: Cheesy Kimchi Mayo, Cheesy Chicken Pie, Cheesy Oreo and Cheesy Hazelnut.

I decided to go for the Cheesy Kimchi Mayo (S$2.80) and the Cheesy Hazelnut (S$2.60) as they seemed like rather unique combinations.

The Cheesy Kimchi Mayo had dominant spicy and sour notes, with a distinct savoury tang from the seaweed, which further amplified the kimchi taste.

While I could not taste any mayo, the gooey cheese complemented the kimchi really well. If you are a huge fan of kimchi, you would definitely love this!

I was more excited about the Cheesy Hazelnut as I love desserts. The molten hazelnut filling was decadent, yet not overly sweet. There were little bits of hazelnut studded throughout the cheesy pancake for a pleasant crunchiness.

The mild saltiness from the cheese helped the flavours blend together perfectly. While it was indeed rich in consistency, it wasn’t jelak at all.

The cheese in these new pancakes was creamier and more buttery, with a stronger cheese taste than usual. Nonetheless, I really enjoyed them and would love to try out the other two flavours soon.

If you happen to pass by Mr Bean, give these cheesy pancakes a try and let us know what you think!

Dates & Times: Now available till 30 April 2019 (at all Mr Bean outlets)
