The MyMalaysia Tourism Awards 2023 (MMTA 2023) was organised by ASN Commerce Sdn. Bhd. (ASN) and Money Compass Media to honour local tourism players who have been instrumental in allowing the tourism sector to bounce back quickly following the COVID-19 pandemic. On 11 Mar 2023, MMTA awarded 35 tourism players across different fields, ranging from resorts to theme parks.
ASN hopes to promote Malaysia as a nation with abundant tropical forests, gorgeous beaches, and multicultural heritage locations with the theme “Explore, Discover & Enjoy Malaysia”.
Other than that, they are encouraging industry players to move Malaysia’s tourism sector forward in hopes of placing the country as one of the top 10 travel destinations in the world.
Ms. Amy Seok, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of ASN Commerce Sdn Bhd, noted that the industry must be prepared to face the challenges that lie ahead, especially with the increasing demands for travel post pandemic. She further explained that MMTA will serve as the standard that industry players must meet in order to overcome these challenges.
Dr. Sri Ganesh Michiel, National President of the Malaysia Budget and Business Hotel Association (MyBHA) acknowledged Malaysia’s tourism industry to be a big contributor to economic growth. With that, they are anticipating more that 16.1 million visitors in 2023, bringing in approximately RM49.2 billion in tourism-related revenue.
Leading industry figures like Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Dato’ Richard Koh, President of the Malaysian Association of Themepark and Family Attractions (MATFA), Dr. Sri Ganesh Michiel, National President of the Malaysia Budget and Business Hotel Association (MyBHA), Dato’ Haji Sahariman Hamdan, President of Homestay Association of Malaysia, Ms. Erina Loo, Chairwomen of Malaysian Women Tourist Guide Association (MWTGA), and Datin Dorothea Justin, President of Malaysian Association of Wellness and Spa (MAWSpa) are all in support of MMTA 2023.
