Hooray! It looks like there is a new addition to the vibrant food scene in Balestier. Introducing Ontama Don, a Japanese eatery located at Shaw Plaza which will be opening to the public on 26 Mar 2023.

I had a sneak peek of the menu and my goodness… there’s actually 14 different kinds of don for you to choose from! All of them are served with onsen tamago, miso soup, salad and 3 side dishes— even my fussy grandmother will be pleased.

The ultra deluxe Bara Chirashi Don (S$24) serves up salmon, maguro, hamachi, salmon belly, tako, hotate, megajiki, and tamagoyaki in a single bowl— what a spread.

If you’re not a fan of raw food, you can go for the Tendon (S$19) instead. You’ll be treated to a plethora of fried ingredients: ebi, enoki, shitake, sweet potato, onsen tamago, green pepper, carrot, eggplant and yakinori.

The A5 Wagyu Don (S$59) features the best A5 Wagyu beef from Mount Fuji. I mean, who can resist the delicious melt-in-your-mouth meat from Japan, right? What makes it even better is that there will be an opening promotion of 50% off for this particular dish from 26 to 31 Mar 2023.

The extensive menu also has various à la carte items like Soft Shell Crab Tempura (S$12), Agedashi Tofu (S$5), Tonkatsu (S$12) and Salmon Avocado Salad (S$15).

Come enjoy all these delights from the land of the rising sun from 26 Mar 2023 onwards. I’ll catch you at Ontama Don.
