Unfortunately, pests are a prevalent problem in the F&B world. For PraChinBuri Thai Kitchen in Yishun, it is a problem that has led to a suspension of their license from 5 Jul to 18 Jul 2023.

This restaurant has accumulated 12 demerit points within a 12-month period, resulting in an automatic suspension and a fine of S$800. According to the Singapore Food Agency, the 2 offences given were both a failure to keep the licensed premises free of infestation.

Before the business can resume operations after the suspension period, all food handlers at the restaurant are required to re-attend and pass the WSQ Food Safety Course Level 1. All food hygiene officers working in PraChinBuri Thai Kitchen will also be required to re-attend and pass the WSQ Food Safety Course Level 3.

Although this news may shock some, it seems that many customers have seen this suspension coming. One Google review sheds some light on the severity of the pest issue, remarking that “a ton of cockroaches suddenly started sprawling out from beneath the first plate” just as they were about to start eating.

It went on to mention that “there were at least 30” cockroaches, which horrified them. Another Facebook user commented on an announcement of this suspension, quipping that “cockroaches (were) walking around the… table and inside (the) menu”.

The uncleanliness is also shown in some of their customers’ dining experiences, with some getting diarrhoea just an hour after consuming PraChinBuri Thai Kitchen’s fare.

As of Jul 2023, PraChinBuri Thai Kitchen has not posted a response to any of those criticisms by their customers.

With the place being popular for their cheap Thai dishes, there will surely be a diminished crowd after it opens again. After seeing all the news of pests, it’s safe to say that there will not be a long queue for a while.
