Businesses have been forced to hike up prices in lockstep with rising GST rates, but Prawnography has refused to follow suit. So steadfast, in fact, that the Hokkien mee eatery is opening a second branch at Balestier come 5 Aug!
The eatery first opened at Novena Gardens in 2022 and was lauded for its generous portions of Signature Hokkien mee ($8). You can choose to have it stir-fried with prawn, squid, or pork belly. Be prepared for a grand undertaking if you embark alone, as a single plate can accommodate 2. Bring company and you just might conquer their Signature Deluxe Fried Hokkien mee (S$10). Be extra careful when you dig in as the broth is practically spilling at the edges.
Western dishes like Fried Chicken Cutlet and Grilled Chicken Chop can be paired with a few variations of Fried Rice (S$6.50) for a total of S$10.

If you’re there for breakfast, an affordable plate of Nasi Lemak (S$1.20) or Bee Hoon (S$1.60) makes for a good base to pile on more side dishes. My idea of a proper meal starts with ikan billis (S$0.90), then either some fried chicken cutlet or chicken chop at S$5 each, before tossing in some vegetables (S$1.30). Realistically though, those veggies usually get replaced with a fried egg (S$1.10).
With branches situated at Novena and now, Balestier, Prawnography seems to be heavily favouring the central region of Singapore. Hopefully, those generous plates of Hokkien mee will find their way to other areas soon enough. Till then, some of us will have to go out of our way to have a taste.
