Nothing beats a classic. And nothing is more classic than chicken rice. For those near the Toa Payoh West Market & Food Centre, Ratu Chilli Chicken Rice opened its doors on 8 Oct 2026, serving traditional chicken rice with a kick for S$6.50.

Based on their Instagram, Ratu Chilli Chicken Rice has a loving and supportive group of family and friends. That’s something you can’t manufacture, something that I’m sure will translate into the food they serve.
I personally think this adds a warmth and welcoming vibe to their stall. To have that many people supporting you, showing up to your opening, is truly a heartwarming sight. You can see almost every generation in 1 photo.

Normally, chicken rice comes with the classic garlic chilli you pour over. But not at Ratu Chilli Chicken Rice. Instead, they pour green chilli directly onto the chicken.
Some of you may know that sambal cabe ijo has been making the rounds as a viral Indonesian sauce. Ratu Chilli Chicken Rice has a variation of it that several people have enjoyed.

Sambal cabe ijo is more mellow in terms of flavour as compared to its fiery red sister. However, the spice is just as intense.
It could be described as more tart and bitter due to the unripe green chilli. I personally prefer green chillies as they help balance a rich dish, in this case, rich chicken rice. Also, by adding the chilli directly to the chicken, the flavour would be more concentrated in the chicken, giving each bite the taste of the green chilli.
With that, the entire dish is balanced. The juicy and salty fried chicken, the tart and fragrant sambal, the fishy and crisp crackers, a fugue of flavours worth exploring. Try some classic flavours for yourself, head to Toa Payoh West Market & Food Centre and be one of the first to have a taste.
