Sandwiches are a great go-to substitute for meals. They’re convenient and affordable, and so easy to eat. san.wich by Swee Heng is recent addition in Lot One, which is located at Choa Chu Kang.
san.wich is a concept store by Swee Heng, focusing on halal-certified Japanese-inspired sandos, which are very much trending now. And as with anything Japanese-inspired, they have garnered quite a bit of attention since their opening on 21 Feb 2023.
Are we surprised, though? The store will inevitably have a strong traction as their prices of each sandwich starts from S$2.80, and Singaporeans really love affordable options.
Notably to bread lovers, Swee Heng is known for their concept stalls like Crolo, that specialises in a myriad of croffles and croissants, and Classic 1989, which is Singapore’s first full-fledged halal bakery chain. Now with san.wich, they’ve catered to a whole new crowd.
What are those in colours of purple, yellow and orange?
Not to worry, san.wich utilises natural ingredients and does not include additional food colouring. They bake fresh loaves on site, from pumpkin-flavoured to beetroot and sweet potato, utilising natural sweetening enhancers that make their sandwiches taste and smell even better.
They even have tomato loaves, which we don’t come across often. I wonder how that tastes like!
In the savoury spectrum, we have flavours like Chicken Ham and Egg Mayo (S$2.80), Chicken Fillet with Hashbrown (S$2.80) and Soy Garlic Chicken Cutlet with Cheese and Egg (S$3.20).
They’re quite unusual combinations as compared to neighbourhood bread shops that specialise in conventional combinations like ham and cheese or coffee breads. One of the non-chicken variables include the Ebi Patty with Egg (S$3.20) sandwich, which has a full prawn patty inside! While they’re definitely on the smaller side as compared to a full meal, they’re still suitable if you’re looking to grab something for breakfast or a light lunch.
After announcing their opening on their socials, quite a large crowd has been petitioning for san.wich to open at other parts of Singapore as well. One person even commented: “Waiting patiently for these attractive sandwiches to spread coming to the East, Central and North of Singapore.”
Clearly, we have a huge bread community.
If you look closely, they have fruit sandos as well! Aesthetic fruit sandos were flooding Pinterest and Instagram feeds just months ago, so good job to the Swee Heng team for their R&D.
I can’t wait for our team to try them out ourselves. Considering how many options they have, I reckon I’ll be spoilt for choice.
