Famed for their slurp-worthy mee hoon kway, Seletar Sheng Mian and Mian Fen Guo at Kebun Baru Market and Food Centre will be temporarily closed. The temporary closure is from 17 to 28 Jul 2023.
When I caught wind of this closure, my heart skipped a beat as I mistook this branch in Ang Mo Kio as my go-to meal place near our office in Toa Payoh. For the folks who thought the same thing, fear not! Seletar Sheng Mian at Toa Payoh and Sims Vista remain open during this period of time.

Also known as Seletar Sheng Mian Mee Hoon Kway, this noodle joint has a total of 3 branches. With the Toa Payoh branch run by the elder brother and the Ang Mo Kio one run by the younger, Seletar Sheng Mian is definitely a family-run business.
The announcement of the temporary closure was discreet, with a simple A4 sheet placed on the stall shutters. No news other than this Facebook user‘s reminder had been posted online, either as the stall had no personal social media.

We have tried the delicacies from this stall before, and it is safe to say that there will be much to be missed for these 12 days. Huge portions of delightful porky broth hide ultra chewy mee hoon kway, perfect for a comforting meal. Mee Hoon Kway (S$4/5/6) is the OG order to make at Seletar Sheng Mian and Mian Fen Guo.
However, my personal preference has to be the Sheng Mian (S$4/5/6). Slurping up QQ noodles in that tasty broth was simply so good that I crave it on non-office days, too. With giant prawns and lots of minced meat, what’s there not to love?

This period from 17 to 28 Jul 2023 is the perfect chance to see what else Kebun Baru Market and Food Centre has to offer. Pin’s Kitchen is a popular option, as it serves classic zi char perfect for a hearty meal.
