Korean food culture wouldn’t be what it is today without street food.
If you’ve ever been to a night market in Seoul, you’d understand the joy of weaving through the endless stretch of food stalls and mingling with the hungry crowd.
Tteokbokki and cheese skewers? Hotteok with nuts and honey? Bulgogi cup-bup? Yes, yes, and yes.
If you’re heading to Seoul during the next few months, why not make a trip down to Namdaemun 3GO Night Market Market in Central Seoul?
The Seoul Metropolitan Government is unveiling a special food truck street from 26 June to end-October 2019, that will operate on the130 metre stretch of street between MESA Shopping Centre at Namdaemun Market and Samik Fashion Town.
13 food trucks will be serving up all kinds of international cuisine from 8pm – 12am daily.
Visitors can also expect outdoor performances and flea markets peddling handcrafted products from social enterprises.
Another food truck street at Gangnam’s Han River will be rolled out this year, in addition to the upcoming Namdaemun night attraction.
This “food truck street project” has been implemented since 2017 in a bid to attract more tourists and visitors to different parts of Seoul.
Other than receiving education and state funding, food truck owners can also gain greater exposure and experience. The majority of food trucks are also run by young people, who rely on such opportunities and events as platforms for entrepreneurial growth.
When in Korea, you’d better soak in all that street food action. Night market hop, anyone?
