While Tanjong Pagar Plaza wasn’t a place that many cafe hoppers made pilgrimages to for checking out the best brunch hotspots, the place has gotten a bit of boost from gorgeous new openings like Equate Coffee. Joining the grey is Sugar & Tease, a local patisserie that makes pastries that are a treat for the eyes.
They recently moved here, to a more central location, from their long-time home in Serangoon. It’s a quaint little spot but there’s enough space inside for you to sit down and slowly savour some of their gorgeous creations, perhaps with a fresh cuppa in hand.
The white walls and simple decor just means there’s more focus on their pastry display that’s just loaded with intricately made pastries by Sugar & Tease. One of Sugar & Tease’s most popular creations is the One in a Melon (S$7.50), a cake that’s a combination of watermelon, cream and a colourful assortment of berries.
We got the Lemon-Praline Meringue Tart (S$8.5o), which looks amazing! Unlike other lemon meringue tarts, this doesn’t have an overpowering sourness as the nuttiness from the praline helps to tone it down.
Along with their bakes, Sugar & Tease’s coffee is pretty good too, using a blend of Colombian and Brazilian beans for that nice nutty taste that always works with sweet treats. It’s served with their homemade cookies as well, which we felt was a nice touch! Overall, the bakes are great, but we have to admit that they are pricier than the average.
