New in town: SUKIYA, Suntec City — Affordable bowls from Japan’s leading gyudon chain

For those looking for a taste of Japan in our little red dot, here’s some excellent news for you. SUKIYA is unveiling its very first outlet in Singapore on 17 February 2021. This is Japan’s largest gyudon chain, with close to 30 years of history under its belt.

Its long-standing presence can only mean they are doing something right by their beef bowls, and that’s precisely what we can look forward to at their restaurant in Suntec City. This joins the ranks of the other Japanese options in Suntec, with the likes of Tendon Kohaku and Ichikokudo Hokkaido Ramen

Diners at SUKIYA can expect a plethora of meat and rice options. Of course, it would be a crime to not discuss their bestseller—the Gyudon (S$4.20 for S, S$4.90 for M, S$6.70 for L, S$8.80 for XL). This is the restaurant’s moneymaker, which comes empowered with tender beef slices and onions simmered in their secret recipe sauce, all atop a bed of warm Japanese white rice.

It doesn’t sound all too complex, and that simplicity is precisely what drives this signature bowl of beef and rice. Prices here are thoroughly attractive as well. A medium portion of gyudon for less than five dollars? Sign me up. I’d reckon that you’ll be hard-pressed to find restaurants this affordable elsewhere.

If you’re looking to shake things up, there’s plenty else that SUKIYA has to offer with this Melted Cheese on Triple Cheese Gyudon (S$6.80 for S, S$7.50 for M, S$9.30 for L, S$11.40 for XL). It’s a glorious amalgamation of all things cheesy and beefy. Here, you can dive into heaps of cheddar, mozzarella, and monterey jack cheese atop your beef slices. If that’s not enough, there’s also an additional slathering of melted cheese to leave all the cheese lovers out there utterly swooned.

Of course, apart from gyudon, there are a plethora of other options available at SUKIYA, ranging from chicken yakitori bowls to grilled unagi (eel). You can go to town with giant bowls of rice and meats here, and you shouldn’t be ashamed to do so. For now, I wait with bated breath and bubbling excitement for a chance to try some authentic and wallet-friendly Japanese gyudon on our shores at SUKIYA.
