Swensen’s is back in Changi Airport Terminal 2 and better than ever! Introducing Swensen’s Unlimited, their newest buffet concept that opened just last week on 1 Mar 2024.
Swensen’s Unlimited is the beloved family restaurant chain’s first international buffet concept in the world. It boasts a wide array of roast meats, fresh seafood and delectable mains that will leave you spoilt for choice. What’s more – it’s halal-certified.
In true Swensen’s fashion, the restaurant exudes nostalgia. It’s decked out like a classy old-school diner complete with warm yellow stained glass lamps and signboards inscribed with their offerings. It instantly transported me to childhood days of Swensen’s feasting.
The buffet is priced at S$31++ for a weekday lunch and S$35++ for dinners on Mon to Thu. Weekend lunches are priced at S$50++ while dinners on Fri to Sun are priced at S$60++. Do note that weekend prices will apply for Public Holidays and Public Holiday Eves.
With 90 minutes and no limits (to the amount of food you can take), here’s what is in store for you.
Starting off strong is a plethora of fresh seafood on ice, including premium choices like Flower Crabs and Scallops alongside classics like Tiger Prawns, Mussels and Clams. While I’m not huge on seafood, I have to admit that the selection here was of great quality.
Meat lovers can look forward to a variety of mouth-watering roast meats, such as Roast Striploin, Roast Leg of Lamb and Roast Chicken. These are expertly cut up and served by chefs at the restaurant’s live meat carving stations.
I watched in awe as the chef’s knife glided with ease through my Roast Striploin. As expected, the meat was extremely tender and succulent. Don’t forget to drizzle it with a copious amount of savoury beef gravy that’s sure to get you going back for more.
Isn’t stale buffet food just the worst? Well, that’s the last thing you’ll have to worry about at Swensen’s Unlimited with their live laksa and pasta stations where your food is cooked to order!
You’ll get to customise your own plate of pasta with a choice of pasta shape and sauce. I fought the urge to try every single combination and settled on an Aglio Olio with linguine pasta. It had an intense smokiness that reminded me of wok hei. Not too shabby for something whipped up so quick!
There’s also an interesting “omakase” pizza station, where chef’s choice hand-stretched pizzas are churned out. I had a simple slice of Hawaiian pizza; I enjoyed its crispy thin crust and stretchy mozzarella.
Of course, don’t miss out on their huge spread of other mains in the likes of IKEA-style beef meatballs, Swensen’s signature Fish & Chips and some cheesy snail sausages. There really will be no space unfilled on your plates and in your stomachs.
Craving some Asian flavours? Tuck into some hearty Peranakan classics like Ayam Buah Keluak and Beef Rendang, or make your own Kueh Pie Tee! A delicious assortment of Indian dishes like Paneer Masala and Nasi Briyani is available too.
Wait, that’s not all! What’s Swensen’s without their ice cream, right? Swensen’s Unlimited is an ice cream lover’s paradise, with a whopping 48 flavours of ice cream and gelato.
These include crowd favourites like Cookies & Cream, Pistachio and Biscoff Cheesecake, refreshing Lychee, Mango and Tangy Lime Sherbet. There are interesting local flavours like Kaya and Milo too, along with unconventional ones like Osmanthus Wolfberry Pear and Iced Peach Tea.
Feel free to go ham and make a sundae or banana split with as many scoops as you please, and top it all off with sprinkles, mini Oreos and wafers from the toppings bar.
Round off your meal with a little more indulgence as Swensen’s Unlimited has plenty of other desserts too. Relish in some brownies, Croffles and banana crumble, or in a selection of colourful nyonya kuehs that look almost too pretty to eat.
