Old-school The Emerald Bakery in Clementi closes permanently after 25 years

It is a sad week for bread lovers— the popular old-school neighbourhood bakery in Clementi, The Emerald Bakery, has shut permanently after 25 years of operations. Fans bid goodbye to freshly baked bread and cakes.

This announcement was made on the bakery’s social media on 29 Dec 2023, in which they thanked their customers for the support they’ve provided since their conception in 1998.

The Emerald Bakery was helmed by Mr Dennis Lim for the entire 25 years of operations. Though the business did not explain the reason for the sudden closure, they mentioned that it was “time to rest and regather”, and also added that they hoped to “return in some capacity” in the future. Perhaps this well-love bakery will return once more soon.

The Emerald Bakery was known for its affordable old-school bakes, including delicious pies, cakes and bread loaves. There, you could pick up classics like pandan chiffon cakes and dark chocolate brownies, as well as various buns filled with an assortment of fillings.

The bakery also had fan-favourite tarts and pies, with their Apple Crumble Pie and Banana Coconut Pie being some of their iconic products. Customers could also find atas bakes like mushroom cheese quiches and vanilla madeleines within the store.

The Emerald Bakery’s assortment of loaves were not to be missed, as they came in flavours like garlic butter, black sesame, matcha red bean and pandan raisin. All these iconic bakes will surely be missed dearly.

Fortunately, the Clementi area is rife with affordable neighbourhood bakeries, ensuring that bread lovers in the West can still get their doughy fix. Good Day Bakery is a relatively new Taiwanese bakery that just opened right outside The Clementi Mall, while other bread fixtures, like iBread, Baker Talent, BreadTalk and Proofer Boulangerie can still be easily found in the area.
