Although the opening date is set for 1 Apr, rest assured that it is not an April Fool’s gimmick, according to a post shared in the Toa Payoh Makan Places Facebook group, and confirmed by local hawker enthusiasts.

While details about the stall’s operator have yet to be fully confirmed, the social post referenced a popiah stall returning to serve fans, with the words “Welcome back Popiah Lovers”. The post has sent netizens into a frenzy, wondering if this stall is the reopening of a traditional popiah vendor in the food centre.

Some speculate that it is the reopening of the well-established Old Long House Popiah, a popiah stall that is recommended for its crispy bits and classic fillings. The author of the post has even responded to a comment confirming that it is, in fact, the previous Long House popiah.

However, given the lack of official statements, it is not fully clear whether the new opening refers to the same long-standing Old Long House Popiah returning from a short break, or a different popiah stall setting up at the same hawker centre.

Many in the community expressed hope that the new opening would serve classic popiah with freshly stewed turnip, crispy bits, and flavourful sauces that reflect traditional recipes, bringing with them a taste of the older days.

Whether this new opening signals a new operator or the return of an existing favourite, the general sentiment has been celebratory and full of anticipation. We can only hope that Toa Payoh Lor 7 Popiah brings with it fresh, flavourful and perfectly balanced popiah as we know it.
