On 25 Sep 2024, Toast Hut released a notice on Facebook and Instagram announcing the closure of their 17 year old outlet at Old Airport Road Food Centre. Its founder Melvin later reported to news outlets that the decision was made in regards to manpower issues.

News of the eatery’s return surfaced on 10 Feb, when Toast Hut updated its social media pages to announce their reopening at their new outlet on 17 Feb. Located in Bukit Merah’s Connection One, it now boasts a larger new and improved industrial-style interior complete with air conditioning and seats.

Toast Hut has made changes to its menu since it reopened. For instance, they have expanded the menu to include not just their classic toast, but also economic-style breakfast and lunch selections

For breakfast, options include Economic Beehoon, White Beehoon, Fried Noodles and Fried Kway Tiao, while Economic Rice is provided for lunch.

A plate of plain Beehoon costs S$2 but will start from a base price of S$1.50 with the addition of the other ingredients provided. Mix and match whatever else you like onto the plate such as the vegetables (from S$1) and meat (from S$1.50). One of the bestsellers is Braised Pork, made based on a secret recipe by Melvin’s dad when he used to sell it in Tampines.

While traditional toast was not available at Toast Hut for some time after it reopened, it has resumed serving Kaya Butter Toast (S$2.20) for now. A set at S$5 comes with two soft boiled eggs, the toast and one hot drink of choice or the option for a cold drink at an additional S$0.60

Toast Hut’s upgrade from a humble hawker stall to its own eating space is truly an achievement! Will you be visiting the new outlet at Bukit Merah to try their new menu items?
