If you love cheery rainbow candy, you’ve got to check out Totti Candy Factory. This pop-up candy store hails from Harajuku in Tokyo, and sells huge clouds of cotton candy bigger than your head!

Located in Yishun’s Northpoint City, you can watch the store staff spin candy floss as they make your orders upon request.

Of course, the pretty pastel colours and fluffy floss make for great photo opportunities. For someone with a sweet tooth like me, trying this creation was a must.

The store interior also provides a great backdrop for Insta-worthy shots. The iconic bright pink wall includes the store’s logo, or you can opt for the pretty polka dotted white wall. Either way, your photographs are sure to turn out fantastic.

The highlight of the pop-up was definitely the cotton candy which came on a stick. The candy floss comes in four different flavours: Plain (white), Strawberry (pink), Lemon (yellow), and Cider (blue). If you’re enjoying this sweet treat on your own, you’ll probably be better off getting the single-coloured cotton candy for $6 each.

But if your life motto is ‘Go big or go home’, then snag one of the tri-coloured cotton candy clouds! They come in three different patterns, but at $10 each, it may seem a tad pricey.

Trust me though, when you get a good look at the size of the candy cloud, $10 seems like a fairly reasonable price. I decided on the pink, yellow and blue pattern, and I got to watch the staff member spin the floss right in front of me!

If you didn’t already know, cotton candy is actually made from melted sugar granules. The thick syrup has to be spun really quickly to form thin, fine strands, which become a beautiful fluffy cloud of candy.

Once you get your cotton candy cloud, you’ll definitely want to take a couple of photos before digging in. After all, it’s not every day that you see a fluffy mass of candy floss big enough to serve as an umbrella!

But don’t take too long, because the cotton candy will start to wilt. I discovered that it was definitely easier to grab pieces of this sweet treat before the floss melted.

Here’s a tip: pull a piece of candy floss and fold it into a smaller portion. This will compress the fluffy floss into a bite-sized mouthful that’s easier to eat.

Unfortunately, eating cotton candy is always a messy experience. Since I got the Cider flavour too, it also stained my teeth slightly blue. (Don’t worry, it washes off!)

Have some wet wipes ready, or make a quick trip to the washroom to clean up. But I found that messy as it was, getting cotton candy all over my hands (and lips!) added to the charm of this typical carnival snack.

If you’d prefer to bring some cotton candy home instead, opt for the takeaway containers of tri-coloured cotton candy. At $8, three flavours of cotton candy are packed into the plastic containers. It’s definitely more convenient, but sadly you miss out on the photo opportunity.

You don’t have to travel all the way to Tokyo just for a taste of this pastel rainbow cotton candy. Just grab a friend or two, or maybe that special someone you want to impress, and snag a sweet rainbow cloud of your own!

But hurry, because this pop-up will only be there until 31 May 2018. You’ll want to show your support, because if they do well enough, who knows? They may open a permanent store!
