A family outing turned into a distressing ordeal on 23 Mar 2025, when a young girl suffered burns at Restoran QQ BBQ Steamboat Buffet in Kepong — an incident her mother attributes to the restaurant’s alleged lousy handling of safety measures.
The full account unfolded in a heartfelt Facebook post on 27 Mar, where the mother detailed the night’s events. The family had arrived at the restaurant around 9.20pm, opting for an outdoor table to enjoy the cooler evening air.
Like many similar establishments, QQ BBQ Steamboat used baking paper on the grill. To ensure her daughter’s safety, the mother seated her further away. However, she soon noticed that the restaurant’s large fans were blasting at full speed, causing the flames to flicker uncontrollably each time she tried to grill.
Concerned, she approached a QQ BBQ Steamboat staff, requesting that one of the fans be turned off. Instead, the staff cranked up the flame to its maximum setting while leaving the fans on — intensifying the heat and burning through the baking paper at an alarming rate.
Stepping inside to request more baking paper, she returned moments later to find her daughter in tears. A quick check revealed painful burns on the child’s hand and the side of her face, likely from the scorched baking paper that had landed on her skin before disintegrating onto the floor.
Despite staff members coming over, they allegedly stood by without offering assistance. Left to handle the situation on their own, the mother swiftly applied ice cubes to soothe her daughter before rushing to a nearby pharmacy for ointment. They then sought medical attention at a nearby clinic.
Amidst the chaos, their dinner was left untouched, yet Restoran QQ BBQ Steamboat still presented them with the full bill. Disheartened by what she described as the staff’s indifference, the mother voiced her disappointment over their lack of accountability and empathy.
