Why do people usually avoid patronising chicken rice stalls at night? That’s because some establishments leave the cooked poultry hanging out all-day since morning, increasing the risk of bacteria contamination. Hmm… I still eat it anyway and I’ve always been fine.

Well, that’s not the case for 96 Chicken Rice, located at the food court within ESR BizPark @ Chai Chee (near the Decathlon at Bedok).

“Unlike conventional chicken rice businesses, we never hang our chicken outside. Instead, the chicken is made to order,” says Tommy, the owner, who also happens to be the 2nd-gen of Bai Nian Yong Tau Foo. This is his first time venturing into the world of ji fan.

He adds, “You can even have our chicken rice at night with peace of mind.”

However, for those who prefer chicken breast meat, you might be disappointed. 96 Chicken Rice only serves fresh chicken leg, consisting of drumstick and thigh— sorry gym rats! It’s also roasted and doesn’t offer the steamed, white option.

The reason? Tommy only loves the drumstick portion, because, growing up, his parents never allowed him to eat the breast meat at all.

Also, since Tommy doesn’t eat vegetables, the Beauty Leg Rice (S$6.90) is served without any cucumber slices or any other greens— except for the coriander garnish, ahem.

The juicy chicken is paired with good ol’ chicken rice and a signature house-crafted chilli sauce, that possesses a captivating kick of spice and zest. To achieve maximum satisfaction, customers are recommended to use their hands to relish the chicken thigh for some finger-lickin’ goodness.
