Mcdonald’s Malaysia came out with a new line of desserts earlier in October 2018.

Mcdonald's Salted Caramel Chocolate Pie 1

The line features a variety of salted caramel, coffee, and chocolate-themed items, but what really caught my attention was the 2-in-1 Salted Caramel & Chocolate Pie (RM3.40, approx. S$1.12).

I am a self-proclaimed Mcdonald’s pie connoisseur, so I had high expectations for their new pie, especially since it’s full of chocolatey goodness.

When I got the 2-in-1 Salted Caramel & Chocolate Pie, it was fresh out of the oven and piping hot. I could smell the savoury crust even while it was still in the packaging. Little flakes started falling off the crust which was fried to perfection. I could just imagine the crunch!

However, the first bite was very underwhelming. I was hoping the filling would ooze out as it does with their apple pie, but all I got was a mouthful of crust.

The filling tasted disappointing as well. It had a custard consistency and was overwhelmingly sweet. I was expecting some saltiness from the salted caramel or even bitterness from the chocolate, but the sugary sweetness overpowered every other flavour.

I understood why there was more crust than filling though. If the ratio of crust to filling was even, this whole pie would’ve been too cloying.

If you’ve got a sweet tooth and you’re heading to Malaysia during the weekends, why not give the pie a try? While stocks last!

Prices: RM3.40 per pie
