Over the past few days, taxi stands have seen snaking queues of idle taxis, out of work because more and more people are staying home. In the spirit of #SGUNITED, a number of restaurants have come together to offer free meals to taxi and Private-Hire Vehicle (PHV) drivers who have suffered from dwindling business as a result of the novel coronavirus.

This initiative was organised by the following restaurants: Cheese Story Mookata Buffet, NINJA Cheese Mookata Buffet, House of Thai Kitchen, Boat Story Thai Boat Noodle, Gangnam Story Korean Steamboat & BBQ Buffet, Y Cube Mookata Buffet, and was only made possible with a number of catering companies who helped to provide to food as well.

For the month of April 2020, two free set meals will be available daily for collection at the participating outlets for all taxi and PHV drivers. In order to collect their meals, drivers must flash their vocational license upon collection, which will be a grab-and-go program.

These set meals will include a main course, drink, dessert and cutlery, packed into lunch boxes ready for collection upon arrival. Meals provided will not contain any pork or lard, but do take note that they are not halal-certified.

Collection timings for meals are from 1pm – 4pm and 1am – 4am daily, at House of Thai Kitchen (outside Thai Supermarket) and Cheese Story Mookata Buffet (Parklane Outlet).

In spite of the worldwide pandemic that seems to have no end, I’m glad that people are looking out for each other now more than ever! If you know any taxi or PHV drivers, please don’t hesitate to share this with them, you would be doing them a huge favour.

Dates & Times: Available at House of Thai (5001 Beach Road, Golden Mile Complex, #02-01, Singapore 199588) and Cheese Story Mookata Buffet (35 Selegie Road, Parklane Shopping Mall, #01-10, Singapore 188307) from 1pm – 4pm and 1am – 4am (Daily)
