With the current COVID-19 situation, we can’t travel to most of our usual food haunts, especially if they’re out of our neighbourhood.

Well, lucky for us, most of our favourite hawkers have added food delivery to their repertoire. One of those hawker stalls that will send food straight to your doorstep is Er Jie Curry Puff 二姐咖喱卟.

Originally started as a dessert place, then developing into a cai png stall, Er Jie Curry Puff’s original outlet is in the basement of Golden Mile Tower. Business is brisk, and they have opened another outlet at ARC360 Jalan Besar.

What makes these curry puffs such a sought-after commodity is a combination of quality and limited stock. Er Jie only makes curry puffs after 3.30pm daily, and all the curry puffs are made from scratch. Kneading and rolling the pastry dough, shaping the puff and frying it—it’s all done by hand.

With only 200 curry puffs (S$1.60 each) per day, she fries each batch in a small deep-fryer. Usually made with chicken, now they’ve introduced a new flavour: Luncheon Meat Curry Puffs.

During this COVID-19 situation and the ensuing hiatus on dine-in, Er Jie Curry Puff has also started offering islandwide delivery. Feel free to place your orders through WhatsApp at +65 8277 3833 or call +65 9857 8964! Do note that delivery is only from 2pm – 6.30pm daily, and you can collect at the stall too.

Despite the travel time, the puffs remained super-crispy and flaky; just look at those flakes! And unlike most deep-fried treats, this buttery, crumbly pastry wasn’t overly oily at all. Break this golden-brown puff apart to reveal the treasure trove inside—the thin layer of skin gave way to curried potatoes, juicy chicken chunks and bits of hard-boiled egg.

It was absolutely packed full of ingredients. Since the skin was so thin, each bite included a good ratio of potatoes, chicken, egg, and crispy skin.

For spice lovers like me, you might be just a tad disappointed by the mild spice level. That’s not to say that this wasn’t a yummy curry puff—the rempah was fragrant and slightly sweet, packing lots of flavour within a small package.

Of course, the mild spice level also means that it’s generally more palatable to a wider audience. No need to worry that you won’t be able to take the heat.

If you’re craving a flaky, flavourful curry puff, place your order with Er Jie Curry Puff. Let us know if this is your go-to curry puff place, or if you have any other suggestions!
