We talked about hawker culture several times in our Tapau Please podcast—even diving into the aspect of supporting hawkers no one talks about: support fatigue. But when we say ‘support hawker culture and preserve it’, what do we really mean?

This question is fleshed out in this episode, by breaking down what preservation of a food culture entails. Is it simply passing down recipes? It is educating people on its roots and heritage? Is it about the government injecting funds in ways of rebates and infrastructure?

How do the common man like you and I do our part to preserve an industry that’s so niche, and so rich and vibrant with history and meaning for so many people, without evolving it? Is that even possible? Our co-hosts ponder over this question several ways, but we certainly see this as a discussion that best involves everyone—yes, including you.

If you’d like to be part of the conversation, let us know your thoughts in the Facebook post, and share with us what ‘preserving hawker culture’ means to you. For all episodes like this, head to PodbeanSpotifyGoogle Podcasts, and Apple Podcasts.
