Receiving the sacred stars is definitely not an easy feat. These Michelin Guide‘s restaurant inspectors have studied in the best hospitality schools, are widely travelled, and have lived and worked in various countries around the world.

These inspectors appear at restaurants unannounced, pay for their meals like any normal diner would do, and subsequently rate their experience according to five publicly acknowledged assessment criteria. They include quality of the products, mastery of flavour and cooking techniques, the personality of the chef in his cuisine, value for money and consistency between visits.

As a result of the recent pandemic, the ceremony was cancelled back in 2020 and was held virtually on 1 September 2021. The last physical gala dinner event was held way back in 2019 at the Grand Ballroom of Capella Singapore.

On this exclusive night, a sublime six-course dinner will be presented by four Singaporean chefs based overseas. They are Mathew Leong from 2-Star RE-NAA Norway, Jimmy Lim from 2-Star JL Studio Taichung, Barry Quek from 1-Star WheyHong Kong, and Angela Lai from 2-Star TaïrroirTaipei.

Four of them will be joined by two international chefs based in Singapore. They are Tristin Farmer from 3-star Zén and Tetsuya Wakuda from 2-star Waku Ghin. Adopting the theme of Singapore Celebrated, this feast will pay homage to Singapore’s multiracial and multicultural dining scene. *Chef lineup is subject to change.

One week prior to this event, Michelin Guide Singapore’s Bib Gourmand 2022 list of restaurants will be released. This rating recognises friendly establishments that serve good food at moderate prices.

I am sure most chefs would be anxiously awaiting for this event to take place!
