Penangites, I’ve got some news for you. Tanjung Tokong’s latest Mexican restaurant has finally landed at Straits Quay! La Chicá Mexican Grill Penang is the newest venture of The Olive Tree Group, who has been developing and establishing fine dining restaurants across the county since 2003.

Specialising in contemporary Mexican cuisine, this restaurant showcases the flavours and vibrancy of the culture in a casual and colourful environment.

Straits Quay is Penang’s very first seafront retail marina, which means diners get to enjoy the tranquil view of the harbour while feasting on tacos, burritos, and fajitas.

Their extensive menu has classic Mexican eats like Carne Fajitas (RM48) that comes with tortillas, beef, sauteed onions, guacamole, pico de gallo, sour cream, and roasted capsicum, as well as Mezclar Mariscos (RM36), a quesadilla filled with squid, prawn, and mussels.

You can’t visit a Mexican restaurant without ordering a taco or two, and lucky for you, La Chicá has a wide selection to choose from. Check out the Pato Ahumado con Pina (RM14) that features smoked duck, mojo orange sauce, and pineapple salsa, or their Berenjena y Champiñones (RM12), a vegetarian taco with roasted mushrooms, eggplant, herb pomegranate salsa, and sour cream.

Guess what? It doesn’t stop there— the eatery even offers pasta, pizza, and burgers! They’ve got Pasta de Pecho de Carne (RM38), a spicy beef brisket pasta, and Pasta de Fajita de Pollo (RM32), a chicken fajita pasta— talk about fusion cuisine!

The pizza options include Pizza Mexicana con Tortilla de Res (RM46), which is a Mexican pizza with beef jalapeño, and Pizza de Frijoles Negros y Champiñones (RM40) that’s made with black beans and mushrooms.

Don’t forget to end your meal with some Mexican inspired desserts. They serve Lio Mexicano (RM18), a broken meringue treat with strawberries, dulce de leche, cream, and chocolate dipped churros. For those feeling a little adventurous, try out their Tarta de Queso Margarita (RM18), a tequila spiked cheesecake with lime mousse and cookie crumble.

If you’re looking for good food with a beautiful view, La Chicá is the one for you.
