Annyeonghaseyo! One Punggol welcomes another super affordable Korean food stall — OBBA Jjajang Express. This Korean noodle brand is no stranger to the Tanjong Pagar hood.

There are always snaking queues, endless queue numbers and a hoard of guests waiting to enter their flagship outlet.

OBBA Jjajang Express is a relatively new concept from the company and aims to widen their audience with affordable restaurant-standard Korean eats. The brand launched this concept in Woodlands before expanding to Punggol.

Based on my experience dining in their restaurant outlets, the portions served were always too much for me. When I compare that to the images that have been shared online, I believe the smaller portions would be just right given the price point.

Do note that these prices stated in this article are exclusive to the Punggol outlet only!

The menu is straightforward and focused on their best sellers. I believe those who usually order dry noodles would enjoy the Jajangmyeon (S$6.80). It features a thick and sweet black bean gravy poured over thick yellow noodles.

However, there aren’t many ingredients included, which is an excuse to order a portion of Tangsuyuk (S$9.90). Similar to Chinese style sweet and sour pork, the Korean rendition features deep-fried thinly-sliced pork drenched in a sweet and slightly tangy sauce.

On the other hand, soup lovers should go for the Jjamppong (S$8.80). Besides their signature yellow noodles, a generous amount of fresh seafood is also added. The result? A spicy but flavourful noodle dish that’s slurp-worthy.

However, they also offer additional side dishes if you’re extra famished. Choose from Fried Pork Dumplings (S$3.50), Fried Sausage (S$1.80) or Jajang Bab (S$3.60). Now that the cat’s out of the bag, one can only hope that the queues at OBBA Jjajang Express are bearable!
