On 3 Aug 2023Chef Wan took to his Instagram to announce that he had been diagnosed with lymphoma cancer. Chef Wan, formally known as Datuk Redzuan bin Ismail, is a Malaysian celebrity chef who has been active in the local food scene since the 90s.

In the post, he stated that his doctor ran the biopsy of his lymph nodes twice to confirm that he indeed had lymphoma cancer. Immediately after, the chef was assigned to Dr Jay Suriar, an oncologist.

As the cancer was detected while Chef Wan still felt healthy, it’s most likely that he managed to receive his diagnosis at an early stage. This was proven to be correct when his PET scan results came back the following day to show that the cancer had only spread to his neck. Luckily, this had already been surgically removed. They also found the cancer under his armpit, which Chef Wan stated was very tiny and that his doctor hardly felt it.

According to him, since the cancer was only found in 2 places, it’s classified as stage 2. He further elaborated that the chances of completely curing oneself from lymphoma cancer at this stage is high, between 70% to 80%.

In an update from 6 Aug, he wrote that he’ll be warded on Tue8 Aug, to start chemotherapy. Each cycle of the treatment will require him to remain in the hospital for 5 days at a time. A couple days before this post, he also said that the treatment proposed to him included 6 rounds of chemotherapy with each session occuring every 3 weeks. In total, the Malaysian chef is expected to spend 5 to 6 months in treatment.

Despite the news, Chef Wan has managed to remain positive. He even joked “omg I can start already imagining myself in different fabulous wigs after this treatment, Elvis, M. Daud Kilau style, Samy Velu, Liberace and many more! It will be so funny kan“.

He ended his 1st announcement asking fans to not worry about him, as he’ll bring his followers along for the journey in hopes of inspiring and helping others.

We wish Chef Wan a speedy recovery!
