We all hound that one friend who’s going to Japan with a shopping list, right? Not just me? It saves on shipping fees and we get exclusives normally out of reach in Singapore. But when 8 Dec hits, we can cross Press Butter Sand cookies off that list. They’re opening their first outlet in Singapore.

It’ll be in a takeaway kiosk at the basement level of Takashimaya Food Hall. Takashimaya has hosted the cookie brand before. But it was during their 2021 online Japan Food Matsuri. As it’s not a limited-time-only affair, you don’t have to worry as much. Best to expect a crowd, though.

If you’re unfamiliar with the brand, they’re a Japanese confectionery that was opened in 2017 at Tokyo Station by the same brains behind BAKE Cheese Tarts. They have a mixture of over 30 regular and pop-up stores across Japan, Korea, Hong Kong, and now Singapore.

While Press Butter Sand carries about 7 flavours, Singapore will only start with the basic 3. There’s the Original (S$22.50 for a box of 5, S$60 for a box of 15), buttery cookies encasing Hokkaido cream and caramel.

The other two are Chocolate (S$24 for a box of 5) and Uji Matcha (S$24 for a box of 5). Chocolate has cocoa biscuits paired with a chocolate caramel centre.

Uji Matcha has, what else, matcha, with Hokkaido buttercream.

You may be raising your brows at these prices, but they’re all being ported over directly from Japan. It’s still better than exclusively booking a flight to Japan to get your hands on them.

You should swing by to check their opening. The first 500 customers to spend over S$60 will receive a complimentary Christmas Gift Ornament Press Butter Sand Box. It has cookie flavours not yet available in Singapore: Strawberry and Pistachio, along with an Original Cookie.
