¡Hola! If it isn’t obvious already, my love for Mexican food runs deep — so much that I’d probably call it my favourite cuisine. There’s just something about it: the warm baskets of tacos, gooey enchiladas fresh out of the oven, salty tortilla chips blanketed by guacamole, all washed down with a massive margarita. I don’t just enjoy Mexican food, I crave all varieties of it… aggressively.
Salivating already? Here are the 13 best Mexican restaurants in Singapore that you can Taco ‘bout. So the next time you’re in the mood for meaty, cheesy, tortilla-y goodness, you’ll know exactly where to go — and don’t be surprised if you spot me there too.
1. Lucha Loco

Few Mexican restaurants have floored me quite like Lucha Loco. Consistently hailed as one of the best for its food, drinks and ambience among aficionados, it’s no surprise it ranks first in this listicle.
Its cosy corner spot and al fresco area at the top of Duxton Hill are always buzzing, making it a go-to place for a lively night out.

Their Crab Tostadas (S$18) may look a little plain but are anything but. A crispy tortilla chip is piled with a generous serving of fresh blue swimmer crab meat, its natural sweetness lifted by the creamy avocado and a dab of lime mayo. Simple yet perfect.

Another crowd favourite is their Baja Fish Taco (S$12), starring crispy fried barramundi with mango salsa and slaw. Plenty of other restaurants tout this as a signature, but Lucha Loco’s is my personal favourite version of all time for its nuance and depth.

No stone is left unturned here, not even their Achiote Chicken (S$33), which is extremely tender, juicy and packed with flavour. My only gripe about this restaurant would be that their prices run a tad steep, but the quality of ingredients more than justifies it.

2. Chimichanga

Unless you live under a rock, Chimichanga should be no stranger. Since its 2016 debut in Little India, this ever-popular establishment has grown to 5 outlets islandwide, each with its own specialities. At their VivoCity outlet, you’ll find a Pacific Coast-inspired menu with a heavy lean towards seafood.
Case in point: the Pescado Espado & Aguacate Ceviche (S$24.90). A refreshing mix of avocado and sashimi-grade swordfish paired with crispy chips, it delivers a bright taste of the ocean with every bite.

Then there’s their popular Borracho Fish Taco (S$21.90), featuring a hefty slab of IPA-battered white fish. Its crust is shatteringly crisp without being greasy, while the flesh inside stays silky smooth — so good we honestly think Chimichanga could pivot straight into the fish and chips game.

To round off, you can’t go wrong with any of their frozen Margaritas, or their house-special Super Bueno Mexican Lager (S$14) laced with hints of salt and lime. And psst… they also have a delicious Peanut Butter Tequila Shot (S$6 a shot), which is nutty and — we stress — dangerously addictive.

3. Huevos

Why do Singaporeans wait hours just to get a table at Huevos? Simple. Their fare’s affordable, authentic and, needless to say, delicious. Expect no less than long queues at both their New Bahru and North Bridge Road outlets, because this is one Mexican restaurant that gets it right.

You’ll see exactly why once you bite into their popular Baja Fish Taco (S$15 for 2, S$19 for 3). The crispy breaded fish is dealt in generous portions, topped with a bright mango salsa that cuts through the savoury crust and pairs well with the tender flesh.
Don’t also miss the Tacos De Camaron (S$19/S$25) at their New Bahru outlet, where sweet tiger prawns meet mint and pineapple salsa. Yes, prawn tacos absolutely work — the snappy, juicy prawns burst with flavour in every bite.

Another New Bahru highlight is the Pulpo Asado (S$38), a unique charred octopus dish that’s fresh, lightly briny and satisfyingly chewy.

4. Papi’s Tacos

With a laid-back vibe that feels straight out of a food truck, Papi’s Tacos is one of the most authentic slices of Mexico you’ll find on our sunny shores. The restaurant is helmed by Mexican Chef-owner, Mauricio Espinoza, affectionately known as “Papi”.

For truly no-frills, street-style authentic tacos and margaritas, Papi’s Tacos is as close to the real deal as it gets. A clear crowd favourite is their Tacos De Pescado (S$16 for 2), best enjoyed with any of their Mexican Cocktails, like the Michelada (S$19) and Mexican Mule (S$18).
Even better, they’ve got daily Happy Hours from 12pm to 7pm, with Lager Draught, Frozen Lime Margaritas, House Spirits, House Wine and Spirits going for just S$10++ per glass.

5. Mami’s Tamales

You’ve had tacos. You’ve had burritos. Now, how about tamales? If your answer’s no, it’s about time you got a fix from Mami’s Tamales. This cosy spot along Keong Saik Road is Singapore’s first and only tamalería, shining a spotlight on one of Mexico’s most iconic comfort foods: the tamal.
Behind it are Chef Maribel — affectionately known as the eponymous “Mami” — who grew up making tamales with her mother and grandmother, alongside Chef “Papi” Mauricio of Papi’s Tacos fame. Together, they’re on a mission to put tamales on our radar while serving up hearty, homestyle plates that bring the bold flavours of Mexico all the way to our city.

If there’s one thing you must try here, it’s obviously the Tamales. For the uninitiated, these are hearty parcels of corn masa dough with savoury or spicy fillings, wrapped in corn husks or banana leaves and steamed to fluffy perfection.
Mami’s Tamales line-up spans 6 variations, from the cheesy kick of the Cheese & Pepper (S$14) to punchier picks like the Birria Tamal (S$18) and Pork Salsa Verde (S$18). Don’t miss the Papas Con Chorizo (S$16), starring potatoes sautéed with smoky chorizo, topped with piquant chipotle sauce and a scattering of crispy potato chips.

Can’t decide? The Mami’s Tamales Platter (S$58) is your best bet, with a choice of 4 tamales plus sour cream and salsa for dipping. And here’s a pro tip: swing by on Tamales Tuesdays and you’ll score a Buy 2, Get 1 Free deal.

Another solid pick is the Chalupas Poblanas (S$16, 3 pieces) — open-faced tortillas dressed with fiery red and green salsa, onions and your choice of Chicken Tinga or Beef. It’s a simple street-style snack, but one packing plenty of oomph in every bite.
For something heartier, the Enchiladas Suizas (S$26, 3 pieces) are pure indulgence. Here, tortillas are filled with shredded chicken, rolled up, smothered in a creamy tomatillo sauce, then baked under a blanket of melted cheese. The toppings don’t hold back either: sour cream, avocado, onions and fresh coriander for that pinch of fragrance, and perhaps you’d like to spruce yours up with Refried Beans & Mexican Rice (+S$6).

The menu also throws in fun bites for the table, like the El Diablo Fries (S$12): golden fries tossed with cheese and jalapeños, paired with fiery habanero sauce.
Then there are the Molletes (S$16 each), Mexico’s answer to the open-faced sandwich. Each toasted bolillo half comes layered with refried beans, queso fresco, pico de gallo and avocado, finished with your choice of Four Cheese, Butter “Chicken” Jackfruit, Beef or the highly recommended Chorizo.
And for dessert, the Churros (S$14) with decadent chocolate hazelnut dip need little introduction. Crisp, warm and impossible to resist. Want something unique? The Sweet Tamal (S$13) and the Paletas (S$8) ice cream, made from natural fruits, are not to be missed.

Beyond the food, Mami’s Tamales is a little slice of Mexico all around. From Spanish O’Clock sessions and Live Latin Music Sundays to all-day Happy Hours (Tue to Sun, 12pm – 7pm), this warm space brings people together over good food and good vibes.
So whether you’re after a taste of authentic Mexican cooking, a lively evening with friends or just a plate of tantalising tamales perfect for a first try, they’ve got you covered.

6. Muchachos
If you’ve ever had Chipotle, you should be familiar with what a travesty it is that we don’t have one here. Well, Muchachos at Frasers Tower has a juicy Pollo Asado Burrito (S$14) that’s not just a worthy substitute, but one of the best burritos you can find here in Singapore.
Their burritos are stuffed to the brim, bursting at the seams with meats, rice, beans, salsa verde, pico de gallo, sour cream and cheese. Hearty, messy and everything you’d want in a wrap. What’s not to love?

If burritos aren’t your thing, they also whip up tasty Tacos (from S$5.60), Burrito Bowls (from S$14), Quesadillas (from S$14), Tortas (from S$14) and Nachos (from S$14), all customisable with 9 different fillings. A standout is Lengua (beef tongue), a protein you won’t expect to find much elsewhere in Singapore’s Mexican scene.
Round it out with a side of chips and Guacamole (S$3.60), plus a Jarritos Soda (S$5.60) for the full Muchachos experience.

7. Cafe Iguana
Cafe Iguana (co-founded by an American) has been around since 2000, and remains one of the most reliable spots for US-style Mexican fare in Singapore. Think jugs of great margaritas, chilli con queso and massive portions fit for huge sharing feasts.
The Tacos here are surprisingly affordable, with options like the Al Pastor Chicken Taco and Pork Belly Carnitas Taco going for just S$6 each. Got company? The La Familia DIY Taco (S$45) is a fun pick — a build-your-own platter that feeds 3 to 4 pax.
Set along Tanglin Road at the Orchard Rendezvous Hotel, the space is sprawling and easygoing, whether you’re here with family, friends or a casual date night. You’ll find me at the bar, though, sipping Tequila (from S$15 a shot) under the glow of its well-stocked shelves.

8. La Salsa
New on my radar, La Salsa serves up classic Mexican dishes that hit all the right notes: tasty, well-executed and zero fuss. Their homemade guacamole alone is worth a return trip, but the sizzling Wagyu Fajitas (S$38) are a generous, flavour-packed dish that’ll have me coming back again and again.
The vibe here is casual yet lively, making it a great weekend spot for groups or a date night. Live soloists and bands perform from 7pm every Friday and Saturday night as well, adding a little extra sparkle to your meal. And if you’re looking for a pre-shopping bite before wandering into the little stores of Dempsey, La Salsa is now open for lunch too.

9. Comida Mexicana

Comida Mexicana, located on the East Coast, is a little gem for those in the area seeking authentic Mexican cuisine. The dishes are bold, vibrant and full of character — exactly what you want from a proper Mexican meal.
A crowd favourite is the delicious Baked Crab Enchiladas (S$42). These soft corn tortillas are stuffed with fresh, wild-caught crab meat, baked to perfection and finished with a creamy garlic and enchilada sauce. Topped with toasted almonds and served alongside smooth sour cream, these are rich and utterly addictive.

The Grilled Fish Tacos (S$32) are another must-try. The fish is smoky and tender, while the bright mango salsa adds a sweet-tangy kick that keeps each crunch fresh and exciting. Between these dishes, Comida Mexicana nails that balance of comforting, indulgent flavours and punchy, authentic Mexican flair.

10. Cha Cha Cha

Cha Cha Cha is one of Singapore’s oldest Mexican restaurants, and it still has its classics nailed to a tee. Their Chimichangas with Pulled Pork (S$17) are basically an elevated burrito: a crispy outer shell gives way to tender pulled pork and gooey cheese that pulls when you sink your teeth into it.

If you’re more of a taco fan, the Flour Tortilla Tacos with Fish (S$18) may not look like much, but the flavours are a proper punch. Silky soft fish meets a bright kick of lime, creating a satisfying, flavour-packed bite.
Cha Cha Cha also brings the X-factor with one of the most wallet-friendly margarita deals around. During happy hour, pitchers go for just S$48 — a steal and a half by Singaporean standards.

11. Margarita’s

The institution that is Margarita’s has been drawing crowds to Dempsey Hill for years. Known for some of the best salsa in Singapore and huge burritos, it’s a spot that consistently delivers on flavour and comfort. The patio is perfect for a leisurely afternoon, people-watching over a plate of tacos.
While all the places on this list are pretty casual, Margarita’s is also a favourite for families. It’s kid-tested and mother-approved, as they say.

We recommend going for their Mole Poblano (S$28): grilled Puebla-style mole chicken bathed in a rich, chocolate-spiked spicy sauce. Each taco is carefully assembled, balancing meat and vegetables so every bite hits just right.

12. Piedra Negra
Piedra Negra’s prime spot right off Beach Road makes it a top pick for a relaxed weekend hangout. While the menu includes a few unexpected twists (yes, burgers and fries), what really earns it a spot on this list is its vibrant, buzzing atmosphere, made-at-your-table fresh Guacamole (S$12.90) served with tortilla chips, and its Smoky Margarita (S$16 for Glass, S$70 for Jug).
It’s a spot that works perfectly for meeting friends before a night of bar-hopping or chilling out along Haji Lane — casual, fun and full of energy from the moment you walk in.

13. Guzman Y Gomez

I know, I know… Guzman Y Gomez is a chain, but how could I not give it its flowers? Founded by a New Yorker who relocated to Australia, it was born out of frustration with the lack of good Mexican options — and it’s doing a solid job of filling that gap here. Back when I used to work in the CBD, their burrito bowls were a once-a-week deal for me.
Still a solid option for anyone missing a proper Chipotle-style burrito, the menu lets you build your own Burritos (S$10.30 for Mini, S$14.20 for Regular), Bowls (S$10.30/S$14.20), Salads (S$10.90/S$15.30), Tacos (from S$6.50), or anything your mood calls for.
The turnaround on orders is impressively quick, the tortillas massive and soft, and the hot sauce station — complete with chopped coriander and onions — lets you spice up your meal just the way you like it.
