Pork noodle is a staple of KL’s culinary scene, with numerous street vendors offering their own variations. Often, discovering a standout bowl can prove to be a challenge. Upon research, I came across Omega Pork Noodle, an eatery that has garnered significant acclaim and buzz online.

Omega Pork Noodle - Store front

Omega Pork Noodle boasts multiple locations across Kuala Lumpur, and I chose the SS15 branch due to its accessibility. This particular outlet has a commendable Google rating of 4.3 stars based on 671 reviews (at time of writing).

Omega Pork Noodle - Store front

The reviews for Omega Pork Noodle have been polarised. While some praise its quality and flavour, others feel it falls short compared to traditional coffee shop stalls.

Omega Pork Noodle - Seats

The eatery occupies 2 shop lots with plenty of seats inside. Despite not being as bustling as anticipated, there was still a notable crowd upon my arrival.

What I tried at Omega Pork Noodle

Omega Pork Noodle - Noodles

Before diving into my meal, I perused the menu and decided to try the Dry Pork Noodle (RM15.90, exclusive of tax). Selecting from an array of 12 noodle options, I settled for the classic yellow noodles, generously garnished with spring onions.

Omega Pork Noodle - Noodles

I have to confess, my initial taste of the noodles was somewhat disappointing. The noticeable alkaline flavour was rather unappealing. Although the sauce had a sweet flavour, the alkaline taste took away from it. Nonetheless, the noodle texture was perfectly balanced and not overly cooked.

Omega Pork Noodle - Soup

Opting for the dry version, I received the soup in a separate bowl. Within it, a medley of ingredients awaited— sliced meat, minced meat, meatballs, pork lard, and cabbage, garnished with fresh spring onions and some fried shallots.

Omega Pork Noodle - Soup

Upon my first sip, I noticed that the broth didn’t boast exceptional flavour but instead maintained a satisfactory level. It featured a layer of foam on top, often regarded as the essence of the pork, and presented a decent flavour profile. In my opinion, adding a bit more depth could have elevated the broth to a more optimal flavour.

Kedai Makanan Loke Yew Road Fish Ball Noodle: 3 generations of delectable fishball & handmade noodles, starting at RM9

Omega Pork Noodle - Pork lard in soup

I was immediately struck by the sizable chunk of pork lard, a rarity in restaurant dishes.

Omega Pork Noodle - Pork patty

The pork mince was unexpectedly sizable, resembling more of a pork patty. Skillfully seasoned, it retained a moist texture, avoiding any hint of excessive dryness.

Omega Pork Noodle - Sliced pork

Although I typically prefer thinner slices, the portions here tended to be on the thicker side. The sliced meat was well-seasoned and absorbed the delicious aroma of the broth. However, thinner slices would have enhanced the experience even further.

Omega Pork Noodle - Pork ball

The meatball portion appeared somewhat modest when compared to the other ingredients, yet it offered a satisfying bite with a rich pork aroma. The effort put into each ingredient was commendable, but due to its dense texture, finishing the entire portion could be challenging.

Omega Pork Noodle - Add-on free flow drinks

Patrons can also indulge in unlimited drink refills for an extra charge when ordering a main dish. With a diverse range of options including floral teas, coffee, and soft drinks, there’s bound to be a beverage that suits your taste.

Final thoughts

Omega Pork Noodle - Dry Pork Noodle

Overall, the meal left much to be desired. While the noodles weren’t the main highlight, they were essential to the dish and their subpar quality was disappointing. However, the generous portions of ingredients were a redeeming aspect.

Regrettably, Omega Pork Noodle didn’t quite live up to its glowing reviews. I believe that there are tastier pork noodle spots waiting to be uncovered. What’s your preferred go-to for a fulfilling bowl of pork noodles? Share your favourites in the comments below!
