Konnichiwa! Famous for its “affordable luxury” Japanese-Western cuisine, Royal Host has flown straight from Fukuoka and will open on 19 Jul at Jewel Changi Airport.

Boasting 223 outlets across Japan, this is the family restaurant’s first international outlet since 1971! As reflected in the warm lighting and their interior’s soft curves, expect the best of heartfelt hospitality, otherwise known as omotenashi.

You can be transported straight to their historical origins here — Singapore’s menu will feature Royal Host’s Signatures such as Japanese Hamburg and Omelette Rice.

ROYAL HOST - HAMBURG

Coming in 3 Sauces: Brown Butter, Black Pepper (SG-Exclusive) or WA-FU Japanese, the “ROYAL” Hamburg Steak (S$29.80++), is essentially premium-quality beef served on a sizzling hotplate with assorted vegetables. Seared in high heat, the steak was perfectly charred and yet, retained a juicy interior.

We enjoyed pairing this dish with the savoury-sweet Brown Butter Sauce!

The “ROYAL” Omurice (from S$21.80++) also comes with 3 Sauces: Demiglace, White Cream Sauce and Singapore Chilli Sauce (SG-Exclusive, of course). Be pleasantly surprised to find a bed of Japanese Ketchup Rice nestled within a fluffy blanket of creamy scrambled eggs.

ROYAL HOST - OMURICE Most importantly, I appreciated that the comforting dish had the ideal egg-to-rice ratio. Tip! Depending on your sauce of choice, you may add toppings like fresh Hiroshima Oyster or Snow Crab.

Want something lighter? The “ROYAL” Onion Gratin Soup (S$7.80++) is a must-try. Fun fact, the Marilyn Monroe ate this appetiser for “3 days straight” during her Japan honeymoon back in 1954. Topped with a slice of toasted baguette with Gruyere Cheese, the homemade consomme is loaded with aromatic caramelised onion.

And trust me, I savoured every last drop too.

You can’t end a meal without dessert, right? Look out for decadent treats that include the Parfait and Sundae (from S$16++). Choose (with difficulty) from 3 options: Creme Brulee Parfait Mixed-Berries, Coffee Jelly Sundae and HOT Fudge Sundae.

We tried the last one. Generously drizzled with warm chocolate sauce, the Western-inspired sundae with whipped cream consisted of airy chocolate and vanilla gelato that was extremely light on the palate. Coming from someone who does not appreciate chocolatey desserts, this wasn’t jelat at all!

Psst, wash it all down with a cup of refreshing Mocktail or Tea, we highly recommend the tropical Singapore Sling (S$11.50++) and the thirst-quenching Paradise Tea (S$8++) respectively.

Aside from those dishes, look out for other popular items like the buttery rice gratin COSMO Doria (S$24.80++) and the classic TONKATSU Curry Rice (S$27.40++) that has succulent slices of pork cutlet.

For me though, I will definitely be back for their Breakfast Lineup, specifically the Japanese-Style Mushroom Omelette (S$22.80) which is a bento set with an omelette, grilled salmon, miso soup and more.

Solid! Sayonara.
