If you’re the crafty sort, you probably know about Spotlight. This popular Australian craft and homeware retailer has been the go-to when you need nice fabrics, crafting supplies, home decor and even party supplies. Sadly, the beloved retailer has announced that they are shuttering their remaining stores in Malaysia.

There was already talk circulating several months ago about Spotlight Malaysia potentially closing. It was finally confirmed through an email sent out to VIP members, which announced a “VIP Club Closing Down Sale”. Other shoppers found out about the news when they visited the stores in person.
While no exact date for the closures were given, customers who inquired with the staff in-store were told that Spotlight planned to fully exit the Malaysian market sometime in June or July 2025 – or earlier, if all its stocks were cleared out before then. The current remaining stores are located in IPC Shopping Centre in Petaling Jaya, and MyTown Shopping Centre in Kuala Lumpur.

Everything at Spotlight is now marked at 50% off, while stocks last. Some goods are exempted from the discount, and currently only VIP members are allowed to enjoy the discount (a move that has some netizens commenting feels “unfair”).

This news is an about-face from 2022, when Spotlight’s CEO, Quentin Gracanin, talked about plans to “increase its presence in Singapore and Malaysia”, with plans to open more stores in both Malaysia and 2 more in Singapore.
Unfortunately, it does not seem like those plans have come to fruition – the closure of the Malaysian stores leaves only 1 store in Asia, which is located at Plaza Singapura in Singapore.
If you need any crafting supplies or homeware, now’s the time to head down and stock up before it’s all gone.
