Easties, get ready to flock to 9 Loyang Way for an honest plate of chicken rice with some serious heritage. Helmed by the son of a renowned 1950s chicken rice brand head chef, Seng Kee Hainanese Chicken Rice has just opened on 2 Jul, bringing decades of culinary legacy to the table, one silky poached chicken slice at a time.

Located within The Kanteen, just opposite Loyang Tua Pek Kong, Seng Kee Hainanese Chicken Rice is hard to miss — especially with its bold, eye-catching logo that looks like a fierce cousin of the Angry Birds.

While you’re there, you have to get the Chicken Rice (S$4.20), of course. Poached to silky perfection, the chicken is said to be tender and juicy, paired with a punchy chilli sauce that gives each bite a satisfying kick.
The rice is a star; fragrant and full-bodied, thanks to an old-school technique of cooking it over fire to draw out deeper flavours. Definitely a rare touch in today’s hawker scene!

Go for their Roast Pork Rice (S$5.50) for something more indulgent, or try the Curry Mee (S$5.50) for a hearty, spice-laden experience that’s perfect for rainy days (or any day, really).
Psst… Want to enjoy your meal for less? Follow Seng Kee on Instagram and flash it at the counter to get 5% off all a la carte and set menu items!
The saving grace to its off-the-radar location is the 90 minutes of free parking all day. It makes for an easy stop, whether you’re on your lunch break or weekend food adventure. Plus, they offer bulk orders and pre-orders — just drop Edwin a message to secure your feast and impress your party!
With its old-school roots and modern-day comfort, Seng Kee Hainanese Chicken Rice is a delicious homage to tradition, wrapped nicely in a value-for-money meal. I wouldn’t be surprised if this place quickly earns a loyal following of its own.
