It’s the end of the month, wallets are light, and yet somehow our appetites grow heavier by the hour. Sandwiches, in particular, call to us with the persistence of an ex who won’t stop texting. Relatable? Thought so.

I’m acting as the messenger of this little miracle happening on Joo Chiat from 29 Aug until forever (for now), in the form of a Don’t Runaway sandwich pop-up! It’s brought to you by the same folks behind Champion Bolo Bun and Dickson Nasi LemakThe Platform Collective

Founder Hoh Loyi has just returned from a 3-month sandwich pilgrimage across the US, where she decided to build her own lineup right in Singapore. Imagine the standard US sandwiches remixed with Asian flair — that’s what you’ll get here.

On the menu is The Side Chick — a number that brings together smoked chicken, a feisty white sauce, and the crunch of pumpkin seed dukkah. It’s like the spicier cousin of shawarma

Next up is Mortadel-lah — rich folds of mortadella, creamy stracciatella, salsa verde, and a citrusy yuzukosho in one bite.

For those leaning plant-based, Jack & Loaded dominates the stage with smoky jackfruit chilli that could fool even a brisket lover.

Finally, Beef Me Up takes its cue from Tan Tan Mian, stacking yakiniku beef brisket with smooth peanut butter and a slow-cooked tallow chilli crunch that’s both nutty and saucy.

As the sandwiches are free-of-charge, one person will be limited to one sandwich per weekend drop. All Don’t Runaway asks in return is your honest feedback through their app so they can improve!

They’ve also layered on exclusive merch as a weekend bonus. Fridays reward the earliest risers with limited-edition keychains, Saturdays see the first 20 in line walking off with a Don’t Runaway tote, and Sundays end on a big bang with iron-on patches for the early birds.

Come hungry, come early, and maybe bring tissues if you’re gonna eat on the spot! It’s about to get messy in the best possible way.

Delight your taste buds at the SG60 Food Truck Park from now till 3 Sep
