Regulars who patronise Mizzy Corner Nasi Lemak or Million Star Fried Banana at Changi Village Hawker Centre, you might need to put your cravings on hold for a little while. From 1 to 15 Oct 2026, the food centre will undergo 15 days of Repairs and Redecoration (R&R) works.

“Why is it just 15 days?” I wondered, especially since I’m so used to writing about 2- to 3-month renovations for other food centres.

Well, according to the folks from Mizzy Corner Nasi Lemak, there have been discussions among the hawker committee members that in Dec 2027, the hawker centre will be closed for a few months to undergo major upgrading works.

However, nothing has been set in stone yet and there may be changes along the way. The last time Changi Village Hawker Centre was closed for upgrading works was about 4 years ago — 15 Aug to 14 Nov 2022.

Over the next 2 weeks or so, huge ceiling fans similar to those at our MRT stations will be installed. This is in response to customer complaints about how warm and humid the place can get. Hopefully, the additional airflow will make a significant difference for both diners and hawkers, especially during this current period where the haze seems to be making the weather rather unbearable at times.

For the family behind Mizzy Corner Nasi Lemak, this short 15-day break is also a chance to slow down and spend some quality time together. Running a hawker stall is hardly a 9-to-5 job, and free time for the family can be difficult to come by. So rather than simply seeing the closure as an inconvenience, they will be making the most of this brief breather to catch up and enjoy some much-needed time with one another.
