After a 3-month closure for renovations, Albert Centre Market & Food Centre at Queen Street has finally reopened. The Food Centre in Bugis had closed in Feb and resumed operations on 5 May, and has since been met with much attention from locals and tourists alike.

Albert Centre reopen - exterior

Albert Centre, one of Singapore’s oldest hawker centres, was established in the 1980s and is home to more than 80 cooked food stalls and over 100 market stalls.

Albert Centre reopen - interior

It’s no wonder that when Albert Centre reopened after this long break, people wasted no time dropping by for a good look. It was a much-awaited one, especially for the area’s residents and those frequenting the nearby places of worship like Kwan Im Thong Hood Cho Temple.

Following the renovations, the centre is now airier and more brightly lit, though just as (if not more!) crowded than it used to be. Most of the cooked food stalls are open, though there are a handful which aren’t yet occupied or have yet to start business.

Albert Centre reopen - stairs, lift

The Food Centre occupies Level 1, while the preserved and dried goods and sundry market stalls are on Level 3.

Besides a staircase, there is also an elevator available for the elderly and physically disabled to access the higher levels. The latter is the more popular option, so you might have to prepare yourself for a crowd due to high demand.

Albert Centre reopen - Anthony Indonesia Cuisine, Queen Street Nasi Lemak

Many of the stalls from the original Albert Centre have remained, so you can finally visit them again. For instance, well-loved nasi padang stall Anthony Indonesian Cuisine has already been greeted with snaking queues just 2 days into the opening. Look at that shining new signboard!

Some of the more popular stalls include Queen Street Nasi Lemak, Queen Street Orchid Lor Mee, Tong Fong Fatt Hainanese Boneless Chicken Rice and Pondok Makan Indonesia. If you’d like to try them now that Albert Centre has reopened, I suggest visiting during off-peak hours to avoid the lunch crowd!
