Japanese sports equipment brand ASICS has introduced two new sneakers under its Sportstyle lineup — the AWAKE NY GEL-PRELEUS and the GEL-LYTE III “Kuala Lumpur Twin Towers”.

Fusing together heritage and modern designs, the Sportstyle lineup pays homage to iconic sneakers from the early 2000s. With this release, the brand’s latest footwear models come heavily inspired by the architecture of major cities around the globe.

The AWAKE NY GEL-PRELEUSTM denotes yet another collaboration between ASICS and Awake NY, a streetwear brand focusing on New York City’s unique cultural landscape. Previous notable collabs include the GEL-Kayano 5 360, which dropped in June of 2019.

Featuring a mesh upper, the retro runner combines light-green accents with grey leopard prints to create a modern aesthetic. A thick, wavy midsole adds to the unique silhouette of the shoe, and makes for added sole support. Of course, ASICS’s signature GEL technology is employed here, providing further cushioning in everyday use.

Perhaps a rendition which hits closer to home, the GEL-LYTETM III “Kuala Lumpur Twin Towers” draws from the renowned skyscrapers in multiple aspects of their design.

Firstly, the shoe’s metallic finish is a nod to the exterior construction of the Petronas Towers. Green, translucent outsoles cleverly capture the tint of the building’s windows when viewed from the outside. Iridescent is the choice of finish for the brand’s iconic stripes, which makes for an overall highly eye-catching and stylish visual.

The choice of landmark here is a nod to the once tallest building in the world, which is now one of Malaysia’s most famous attractions. In this respect, this sneaker becomes a vessel for which the world can become more acquainted with the iconic skyscraper.

If you’re looking to purchase the AWAKE NY GEL-PRELEUS, it will be available from 19 December 2020 onwards at Limited Edt Chambers and Dover Street Market for S$239. As for the GEL-LYTE III “Kuala Lumpur Twin Towers”, the shoe can be bought at Limited Edt Vault 313, Limited Edt Chambers or on limitededt.com for S$249
