Exclusive launch of The Balvenie 21 Year Old Madeira Cask Expression at Changi Airport.
In partnership with the DFS group, The Balvenie has recently launched their first ever handcrafted single malt whisky that is aged in a Madeira Cask.
The Balvenie group is a longstanding brand that has been producing quality scotch single malt whiskies. It is the only whisky distillery in Scotland that still uses the traditional methods in crafting their own whiskies, which means to say that they continuously grow their own barley, have their own traditional floor maltings and so on.
Their newest launch, the 21 Year Old Madeira Cask, is aged in a traditional oak cask for over 20 years before finally aged in casks that have previously held a fortified Portuguese wine, the Madeira, for a limited period of time. Because the later wine cask is that of a sweeter and more robust nature than the usual wines, it finishes off with a distinctive rich and honeyed characteristic to the whisky.
On the nose, it is fruity and citrusy, with a slight spicy and vanilla aroma. On the palate, it has an exotic fruit salad and barley sugar taste, with hints of cinnamon spices and gentle oak vanilla. It finishes malty and vanilla, with a lingering lusciousness.
In celebration for the birth of such a whisky and of course the exclusivity of it in Changi Airport before the global launch on April 1, travellers get to have a taste of the 21 Year Old Madeira Cask at Terminal 1’s Central Piazza from March 2 to April 11.
To complement the handcrafted single malt whisky, a showcase of local craftsmen that are commissioned by The Balvenie Connoisseurs of Craft were on hand. Expertise includes leather craft, printmaking and shoemaking. All these are done in an effort to increase awareness of craftsmanship and to reignite the passion and appreciation for such an art of craft.
Guests can also get up close and personal with The Balvenie Morgan, a handcrafted V6 Roadster built in collaboration with the Morgan Motor Company that is flown in all the way from England just for the launch.
Bringing the meaning of all things craft another mile, the showcase also features a cigar humidor that is handcrafted from the staves of casks previously used to mature the precious whisky. So yes, what a crafty event for all travelling through Terminal 1.
If you’re one of the lucky ones to be able to experience this exclusive launch during this limited period, why not grab yourself or anyone a bottle of the 21 Year Old Madeira Cask that is retailing at 295 SGD. It is a travel exclusive at Changi Airport DFS and you’ll be damn sure you’re on it before anyone does.
