While Singapore is not known for dairy farms because of its limited landmass, there are a handful of animal farms in town. These are diverse and offer varied experiences such as petting rabbits and interacting with more unusual animals, including crocodiles and frogs. Some even sell produce for you to whip up meals.

If you enjoy the company of animals, here are the 10 best animal farms in Singapore.

1. Hay Dairies

Hay Dairies has been the only goat farm in town since 1988. Their farm has more than 800 goats of mixed breed that originated from the United States. Their goats are fed with alfalfa hay, which is high in protein and minerals and is also free from Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs). They also complement the goats’ diet with a special feed from Australia that incorporates vitamins and minerals and is free from Genetically Modified Maize (GMM).

Milking takes place once a day, in the early morning till about 10.30am. On average, each goat produces around 3 litres of milk a day. You can view the milking process from the time they open for farm visits (9am) till 10.30am. But note that the farm is closed on Tuesdays.

You can also buy goat milk during your visit (1 x 800ml Goat Milk for S$1, 6 x 200ml Goat Milk for S$1, 4 x 800ml Goat Milk for S$2 and 15 x 200ml Goat Milk for S$2).

2. Jurong Frog Farm

Jurong Frog Farm is Singapore’s first and only frog farm in Lim Chu Kang. It was opened in 1981 by Wan Bock Thiaw. While the farm shut down in 2013, its online store is still open.

The Fresh Whole Frog Meat (500g) (S$14.95) is rich in protein and Omega-3 but low in calories. Frog meat has long been prized as a leaner alternative to poultry. Steam it or stew it, you will be able to taste the freshness one way or another. That is because their frogs are reared locally without any antibiotics, hormones, or steroids for good measure.

Their Small Snakehead Fish (Above 350g per piece) (S$54) is well-known for its wound-healing properties and is beneficial for anyone who has just undergone surgery.

3. Viknesh Dairy Farm

With deep-rooted Hindu values, Viknesh Dairy Farm provides cow and calf services for housewarmings or blessings, temple ceremonies and auspicious days or events. As a family-owned business, the dairy farm has also been supplying fresh cow milk since 2003.

Their Viknesh Dairy Farm Fresh Milk (1 Litre) (S$6.50) is procured directly from lovely Holstein Friesian cows. The farm claims that the milk is entirely pure and natural, with nothing added or mixed — just 100% pure fresh milk, straight from their cow farm.

Their Viknesh Dairy Farm Yoghurt (1kg) (S$7.50) is also taken straight from their amiable Holstein Friesian cows. It is just as pure and fresh as the milk (or so they say).

4. Khaiseng Trading & Fish Farm

Khaiseng Trading & Fish Farm is one of the few land-based fish farms available for the public to visit. At their farm, you can see how basic fish farming technology can yield high levels of productivity. Khaiseng Fish Farm also uses advanced water recirculation systems, minimising water wastage while maintaining a pristine aquatic environment for their fish.

Both live and processed items are available for purchase. The frog farm packages live products using suitable methods to ensure that the fish within stay alive for a few hours. Meanwhile, processed goods are instantly packed with ice to keep them from going stale.

Their live products include bullfrog, catfish and patin. Their processed products include bullfrog, catfish, patin, tilapia, toman and several other species of fish.

5. Long Kuan Hung Crocodile Farm

Long Kuan Hung Crocodile Farm is the last crocodile farm left in Singapore. Founded in 1964, visitors can embark on guided tours to learn about the life of crocodiles, from eggs to adulthood, breeding initiatives, research efforts and watch live feeding demonstrations.

Their guided tour lasts around 1 hour to 1 hour and 15 minutes. Adults and children 3 years old and above pay S$22 per person. Children below the age of 3 enter free.

The crocodile farm in Singapore also has a Shopee account where they sell products which include Frozen Crocodile Flank Meat (Stew) (250g) and Frozen Crocodile Tail Meat (Stirfry) (250g) (S$100 each). Crocodile flank meat is known for its intense flavour and tender, juicy texture, while tail meat is considered lean and milder, with a flaky consistency.

6. Nippon Koi Farm

Over the past 3 decades, Nippon Koi Farm has evolved from an ornamental koi farm into a key player in Singapore’s agricultural landscape, aligning with the nation’s food security goals. Their use of aquaponics has positioned them as a contributor to Singapore’s “30 by 30” initiative, which aims to produce 30% of the country’s local nutritional needs by 2030.

The farm sells Jade Perch (400-500g) (S$20) (above, left), a freshwater fish with high Omega-3 content and delicious flavour. Raised in aquaponic systems, the fish is available live, and it can be degutted upon order. The fish is perfect for grilling, steaming or frying.

The farm also offers freshly caught Tilapia (Above 500g) (S$12) (above, right) that they grow through their aquaponic system. They raise their tilapia without the use of hormones or antibiotics, ensuring a clean product rich in nutrients, vitamins, and Omega 3 fatty acids.

7. Qian Hu Fish Farm

Qian Hu Fish Farm is an integrated service provider for ornamental fish. They farm, import, export and distribute fish. They export fish to 4 countries (Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, and Indonesia) while importing from Southeast Asia, South America and Africa.

If you are a fan of seafood, they sell the Live Giant Freshwater Prawn (1kg) (S$48). These are large freshwater crustaceans with a sweet, rich flavour and firm texture. They can be cooked in various ways, including boiling, steaming, grilling or pan-frying. You can boil them in rapidly boiling water with salt, adjusting the cooking time based on their size.

They also sell the Cooked Blue Mussel Whole (40g to 60g) (1kg) (Packet) (S$10). Steam frozen mussels in the shell for 3 or 4 minutes in a covered saucepan over medium-high heat with butter, garlic and a tablespoon of extra virgin olive oil, then reduce the heat and simmer for a few minutes longer. The shells should open. Discard any that stay closed.

At Seng Choon, they nurse their chickens with care since they are young and give them the best diet that any chicken could ask for. After the chickens have laid eggs, the eggs are sorted, graded, scanned and processed using high-technology devices such as computer scanners.
