Located next to Changi Village Ferry Terminal, Changi Village Hawker Centre has always been extremely popular among both locals and tourists alike. With the upcoming repairs and redecoration works that will take place between 15 Aug 2022 and 14 Nov 2022, I’m sure many will be disappointed that their favourite local food haunt will be MIA (Missing In Action) for three months.

Back in 2012, Changi Village Hawker Centre blocks 2 and 3 underwent 10 months of upgrading which cost an estimated S$4.8 million. The seating capacity at block 3 was increased by 100 percent, and cooked food stalls were equipped with new exhaust systems.

Toilets were also renovated and became more family-friendly, with handicapped-friendly designs and the installation of diaper-changing counters.

I had a chat with Mr. Iskandar, one of the owners of Mizzy Corner Nasi Lemak. It’s one of the most popular stalls at Changi Village Hawker Centre, with long snaking queues daily.

“Most hawker centres usually have a minor upgrading every five months, but it has been about 10 years since our last revamp, it’s about time”, said Mr. Iskandar.

Are you disappointed that you’ll not be able to eat nasi lemak from Mizzy Corner during the three months of renovation work? Fret not! They’ve taken a temporary shop by the main road near Changi Village Hawker Centre and will be updating their customers via their Instagram about the exact address once the preparations are almost done.

With rising utilities and food costs, I sincerely hope that the rental costs for the Changi Village Hawker Centre stalls will remain the same— I do not wish to see anymore good food stalls closing down.

Let’s all look forward to a revamped new hawker centre on 15 Nov 2022.
