Home-grown casual Mexican restaurant, Chimichanga is no stranger to Singapore with its Little India outlet, established back in 2016. And most recently, the thriving brand has added another outlet in the heart of Paya Lebar. Located just a stone’s throw away from the Paya Lebar MRT interchange station, it’s easy to spot the restaurant— just lookout for the fluorescent pink neon donkey, a beloved symbol of the restaurant.

Chimichanga - loaded nachos

We started off with the Impossible “Chorizo” Loaded Nachos (S$20). This is a dish of crispy golden corn-tortilla chips topped with queso, crema, pico de gallo and a generous smothering of guacamole. The plant-based meat paired perfectly with the punchy pico ge gallo and the creaminess of the guacamole. This is also perfect for sharing with friends and family.

Chimichanga - fish tacos

Next on the menu was the Borracho Fish Tacos (S$16 for 3 pieces). The dish consisted of perfectly seasoned plump fish with a crispy exterior snuggled in a soft corn tortilla, topped with red cabbage, jalapeno mayo and pico de gallo. The jalapeno mayo dressing gave the light fish tacos extra flavour without overpowering the fish— this was definitely our favourite! Fun fact, the fish tacos are beer-battered by Chimichanga’s very own craft beer by Neon Donkey Hoppy Donkey IPA, freshly brewed in Singapore.

Chimichanga - quesadilla

Fish tacos gobbled up, we moved on to the Chipotle Chicken Quesadillas (S$16). Filled with gooey melted cheese and chipotle chicken, oh heavens, these cheesy, dreamy chicken quesadillas were good. But of course how can one visit Chimichanga without trying the Chimichanga? We opted for the Shredded Beef Chimichanga (S$18), a wheat tortilla wrap filled amarillo rice, cheese, shredded beef and deep-fried to golden perfection before it’s topped with salsa verde, crema and pico de gallo.

Restaurant - meal

As for drinks, the bar features a wide variety of spirits ranging from premium tequilas, mezcals, rums and more. Crowd favourites include the signature Frozen Lime Margarita ($16) which come in other flavours such as Mango Peach (add S$2), Strawberry (add S$2) and Cherry (add $2). Beer lovers will delight in the restaurant’s own Neon Donkey craft beers.

Dessert - churros

We ended the meal on a sweet note with Chimichanga’s Golden Churros ($10). This crunchy and sinful treat is dusted with a cinnamon sugar concoction and is served with a sea-salt dark chocolate dip. Yummy!
