Sushi is a tasteful dish—it’s often elegant and minimalistic in presentation, without many bells and whistles. But sometimes, there’s a little voice in us that whispers: “this could look much prettier.” Chura Sushi Bar heard those whispers and came up with a sleek and modern concept that will leave your IG feed looking fine as hell.

The new sushi joint can be found in the basement of Suntec City, churning out stunning plates of edible art. While we understand the importance of letting the produce speak for themselves in traditional sushi, a little bit of pizzazz can’t hurt.

Befitting its name ‘Chura’, meaning ‘beauty’ in Japanese, the dishes here are creatively presented with an eye for aesthetics. You can find sushi perched atop dry ice, set onto elegant marble slabs, or even trapped within wooden cages.

“Wooden cages?”, you probably muttered under your breath. Yes, the Chura Ladies’ Set (S$19.80) comes with an ensemble of six temari sushi, served with a sleek wooden cage more like what you’d see in a high tea setting than a sushi bar. It comes with a mini udon bowl and three appetisers so you can fill up the space in your tummy.

If you were wondering what temari Sushi was, it’s a type of sushi where the fresh slices of seafood are placed atop rounded balls of rice, as compared to regular nigiri. You can get it with popular toppings including tuna, salmon, spear squid, scallop, salmon roe, sea urchin at $23.90 for nine.

Or if you’d like something more sizable, they have a Volcano Roll (S$15.80) that is drenched in a swanky orange amalgamation of spicy miso and nacho cheese sauce. You’d even find smoke streaming out, to match its name of “volcano”.
